Essential oil in everyday life. Cleaning fragrance. How to remove an unpleasant smell in the apartment. Fragrances for room aromatization. Fragrances for the apartment. Essential oil for cleaning.

Essential oils are sometimes indispensable in everyday life, and using them daily, here and there, you quickly understand the difference between "Chemistry in everyday life" from a nearby supermarket and natural aromas.

You can use essential oils every day in everyday life ... in everyday life, using them when cleaning rooms and adding a small amount to water. I do this with expired oils... don't throw them away?!

For example, you know that with the help of the scent of pine, fir or juniper, you can easily rid your apartment of the smell of tobacco. Citronella and lemongrass eliminate animal odor. If she moistens the place where your pet "does not behave well", then this will help to raise a naughty kitten or puppy.

Fragrant substances.

Fragrances are a good and cheaper alternative. It is mainly a natural product from raw materials of vegetable origin. They are often used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and household industries as fragrances for household chemicals. Skillful housewives make soap, candles, bath bombs, handmade natural shampoo, where fragrant substances are used for aromatization. Do not confuse them with fragrances, synthetic fragrances that are identical to natural fragrances.

Aromas of fragrant substances are various. For example, phenylethyl alcohol has a floral aroma, limonene is a delicate citrus, benzyl acetate resembles jasmine and tuberose, geraniol smells like a rose, pelargonium, and cinnamic aldehyde, respectively, cinnamon. From fragrant substances you should not expect more than they can give. These are flat fragrances that do not have therapeutic value to the fullest.

Aromatologist Olga Sharova… with love

Have you noticed that hypermarkets always smell delicious? The wonderful aroma of cinnamon or vanilla is distributed on the trading floor for a reason: it is a marketing ploy. The fact is that the area of the brain responsible for the perception and memorization of smells is very closely connected with the area that stores memories of various events and emotions. Thus, a familiar aroma creates certain associations in a person, having a direct impact on behavior. Knowing this, marketers distribute fragrances in stores that have a relaxing effect on visitors, reduce the level of anxiety, thereby pushing them to active purchases. A good hostess can use this method to create the right atmosphere in her home.

How fragrances affect mood and well-being

Today, there are many essential oils on the market that are quite suitable for aromatizing residential premises. Their smells have a different effect on the human psyche and the microclimate in the premises. In particular:

  • The smell that most people associate with coziness and comfort comes from a mixture of cinnamon and orange oils. It is good to aromatize the entrance hall with it, so that any person, entering the house, immediately feels that he is expected and loved. By adding cedar or pine oil to this mixture, you can create an atmosphere of celebration, sincere and carefree fun;
  • In the living room, spray some rose, lavender or sandalwood oil. They set you in a peaceful mood, contribute to a leisurely conversation, cause a desire to listen and understand each other;
  • The bedroom should be dominated by smells that help to relax and distract from the anxieties of the past day. This aroma of lavender oil, lemon balm, bergamot, ylang-ylang, jasmine. Some experts advise putting a drop of one of these products on your pillow to ensure a good night's rest;
  • Geranium, tea tree, lavender, lemon and oregano oils have strong antiseptic properties. Therefore, they are the best suited for flavoring those rooms and objects that would not be damaged by disinfection. For example, if you spray a mixture of lemon and tea tree oils in the bathroom and toilet, not only will a pleasant aroma of freshness be established in the rooms, but also a microclimate will be created that inhibits the development of mold fungi. In warm water with the addition of lavender or oregano oils, sponges and rags used in the kitchen for washing dishes and work surfaces can be soaked for a short time. A couple of drops of geranium oil, placed inside boots or boots, will destroy the unpleasant smell and disinfect the shoes from the inside.

Essential oils have other benefits as well. For example, geranium, citronella, eucalyptus, patchouli, frankincense, thyme, cedar and sage oils help repel mosquitoes and flies. With the help of lavender and cypress oil, you can clean the closet from moths. The smell of peppermint is very disliked by house mice and ants.

Using essential oils of frankincense, mint, eucalyptus and lavender, you can make the microclimate in the house more comfortable for people suffering from respiratory diseases. In the autumn-winter period, it is worth spraying cedar, tea tree and rosemary aroma oils in the living quarters, which will help family members avoid infection with the flu or SARS or it is easier to endure these ailments in case of infection.

Ways to use aroma oils

In order to spray aromas in rooms, special lamps, scented candles, sticks and other similar devices are usually used. However, you can get by with an ordinary container of hot water (a plate or bowl), in which the appropriate oil is added. If such a container is left in the room, the smell will gradually spread to the entire room.

To flavor the inside of the cabinet, a small bag (sachet) with a filler moistened with a drop of essential oil is placed in it. You can add a little of your favorite fragrance to the water that you pour into the iron when ironing bed linen. It is very easy to aromatize an apartment while cleaning up. To do this, you just need to place a couple of drops of lavender oil on a cotton swab and suck it up with a vacuum cleaner before cleaning. To urgently freshen the air, water with the addition of mint oil is sprayed in the room with a spray bottle.

A gauze swab with a drop of lemon oil will eliminate the musty smell from the refrigerator. To deodorize the microwave, water is heated in it for 3-4 minutes with the addition of mint and lemon oils. By placing a cotton swab with tea tree oil on the bottom of the trash can, you will achieve not only getting rid of excess odors, but also disinfection.

To prevent essential oils from eroding too quickly (for example, when flavoring the inside of a refrigerator or a toilet), they are recommended to be placed not on cotton or fabric swabs, but on the surface of small porous pebbles (an ordinary pumice stone, which is sold in the goods departments, may well play this role). for personal hygiene). In such cases, fragrances can be renewed no more than once every 10-15 days.

When using aromatic oils, safety precautions must be followed, for example, be careful when working with oils near open flames, as they are highly flammable. Before choosing an essential oil, you need to make sure that none of the people living in the apartment are allergic to it. You should refuse to use fragrances if a pregnant woman or children under the age of three live in the apartment.

Essential oils can be used not only for treatment, but also for aromatizing the air of the rooms in which you stay all day.

To flavor the premises, you will need the following essential oils: lemon or orange, anise, bergamot, basil, geranium, carnation, mint, lavender, pine or fir, mandarin, rosemary, rose, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, sage, eucalyptus. In addition to essential oils, you will need an aroma lamp, 100 ml of ethyl alcohol, a bandage, a cup for evaporation and inhalation, and strips of filter paper.

At work.

Using aroma lamps at work is not so convenient, so in the morning when cleaning the room, add 2-3 drops of lavender and lemon essential oil to the water.

After dinner, to stimulate the brain and to aromatize the air in the room with essential oils, you can use a mixture of: lemon, pine, cloves and tangerine in a ratio of 4:2:1:1 or pine, lemon, cloves, bergamot in a ratio of 2: 1:1:2, or lemon, mint, rosemary and coriander at the rate of 2:2:1:1. The ratios are selected for the mixture, the unit of which is a drop per room of 5 m2. If you experience pain or heaviness in your head while working, then take a deep breath of the aroma of rose, geranium and lemon, taken equally.

How to use aroma lamps.

Aroma lamps are a convenient and quick way to aromatize the air in the room, giving it a pleasant smell. The aroma lamp is a bowl with a space underneath for placing a candle. Pour water into the bowl, drip a few drops of essential oils. The water is heated by a candle lit under it and begins to evaporate the essential oil, filling your room with a pleasant smell. During the use of the aroma lamp, doors and vents should be closed. This is how the air in the room is aromatized with essential oils.

Aromatization of the air in the apartment.

In the hallway or living room, it is best to use an aroma lamp. Make a mixture of 4-7 drops of essential oils of pine, lemon and bergamot at a ratio of 1:2:2 or orange, pine (fir), mint and lavender at a ratio of 3:2:1:1 or lavender, mandarin, rose, bergamot from calculation 2:1:1:1.

Such aromatization of the air in the hallway and living room gives you the opportunity to feel the warmth of the hearth, peace and comfort and free you from viral diseases.

To remove kitchen odors, refresh and flavor the air in the kitchen, use a mixture of essential oils: lemon, pine and mint at a rate of 2: 1: 1 or lemon, lavender, geranium at a rate of 1: 2: 3 or fir, lavender, geranium, orange in ratio 2:3:2:1.

Indoor flowers.

Phytoncides are released into the air not only by spruce or pine trees in the forest, and juniper groves, but also by ordinary houseplants. So, it has long been known that in the air of those rooms where myrtle is grown, pathogenic microorganisms are half as much as where it is not.

Chinese rose, various creepers and Springer's asparagus also contribute to air purification.

Geranium cleanses and refreshes a stale room. And its aroma helps relieve stress and fatigue. has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system and normalizes sleep.

Isn't your home your personal temple? Consider the main ways to cope with bad odors and help ennoble the atmosphere in your home or office.

Why scent rooms?

There are many reasons for this, here are just a few:

  • To get rid of bad odors. Each room has its own unique smell, and these smells are not always pleasant. With the help of essential oils, you can provide yourself with exactly the atmosphere that you need.
  • For air disinfection. Essential oils can easily cope with almost any pathogenic and unwanted flora and fauna, from viruses to fungi and even annoying insects.

This quality is absolutely invaluable during epidemics, from which many try to protect themselves, say, with the help of garlic. It's unlikely that ethers will help against vampires, but they will do better with the flu virus than garlic, and you won't have to smell like an old dragon.

  • For mood modulation. The connection of the sense of smell with those parts of the brain that determine mood has long been known. Essential oils will help you stay alert and alert at work, and at home they will calm and pacify.
  • For therapeutic purposes. Aromatherapy has long been proven effective in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. You go about your business - and at the same time you are being treated, inhaling the healing aroma spilled in the air of your house.

Basic tools

  • Aroma lamps. The principle of their work is very simple: water is poured into a ceramic or stone bowl and a few drops of essential oil are added. A candle located under the bowl heats the water, the water evaporates along with the essential oil, filling the room with aroma.
  • Aroma stones are small stones made of porous material (clay, gypsum, etc.). You apply a few drops to the surface of the aroma stone and the essential oil is absorbed into the surface. Aroma stones retain the aroma well, slowly releasing it into the air for a long time. Aroma stones are ideal for scenting linen, wardrobes, bags.
  • Cleaning liquid. Another very simple way to fill the house with a pleasant and healthy aroma is to wash the floors with water in which essential oil has been added. To do this, dissolve 5-10 of the selected essential oil in a teaspoon of polysorbate and mix with water (dosages are indicated for an average bucket of water).
  • Aromasache. These are small bags or pillows made of natural breathable fabrics filled with dry flowers, spices, herbs. To maintain a strong aroma, it is recommended to periodically apply a few drops of essential oil to them.
  • Diffusers. There are a variety of ready-made diffusers in stores. But you can make your own aroma diffuser.
  • Gel diffuser. This type of diffuser is especially convenient in the car. You will need: a jar with a lid, regular edible gelatin or agar-agar, glycerin and essential oils of your choice. Dilute the gelatin or agar according to package directions, allow it to cool to room temperature, then add the glycerin and essential oils. Mix thoroughly and pour into a jar. Put in a cool place for several hours until solidified. Recommended proportions: per 100 g of diluted gelatin - a tablespoon of glycerin and 30 drops of essential oil (or a mixture of oils).
  • Reed diffuser. To make a reed diffuser, you will need: a small bottle with a narrow neck made of glass or ceramic, a few reed sticks (you can use bamboo skewers for mini-kebabs), almond oil, one or more essential oils. Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to 50 g of almond oil. Mix and pour into a bottle. Dip a few reed sticks into the bottle (the length of the sticks should be significantly higher than the height of the bottle). Somewhere in a day, the sticks will be completely saturated with flavored oil and will begin to release the aroma into the surrounding space.
  • Wax plates. This specially scented wax is a very convenient form of fragrance, and can be used just about anywhere from wardrobes to car interiors. Melt 50 g of beeswax in a water bath, add 30-40 drops of essential oil and pour it into a silicone mold to harden. The scented wax will give off its subtle fragrance for several months.

Examples of essential compositions for air aromatization

To make your own fragrance, you can choose any oils to your taste. Essential oil can be used both in monovariant and in various compositions. Here are some examples of such combinations:

For kitchen and bathroom. The air in such rooms is often damp, and this can lead to the risk of mold. Place a diffuser with essential oils of monarda fistula and lemon in such rooms. For 50 g of oil in a diffuser - 20 drops of monarda and lemon.

For the bedroom. The sleeping area is the realm of fragrances such as lavender, nard, jasmine, incense, sandalwood, clary sage, rose, neroli.

For office. Essential oils of rosemary, bergamot, lemon, lemon eucalyptus, citronella will help increase your productivity. And sandalwood essential oils will give your office an atmosphere of respectability in the eyes of visitors.

For a children's room. The number of essential oils allowed for children is extremely limited. Very carefully, you can use essential oils of lavender, chamomile, frankincense. Literally 1-2 drops on the entire space of the room. For example, if your child does not sleep well, apply 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil to the aroma stone, and place this stone near the bed.

during influenza epidemics. Using essential oils will help cleanse the air of viruses and bacteria, and will also help strengthen your immune system. Choose from the following oils: Ravensara, Lemon Eucalyptus, Monarda, all coniferous essential oils.

During the hot season. Some essential oils can slightly "cool" the atmosphere of the room, improve your well-being, and eliminate headaches. The top three among these oils: mint, lemon, lemon petitgrain.

In the cold season. The use of certain types of essential oils will help you not only keep warm on frosty days, but also keep you awake on gray dark days. Best choice: all citrus oils, cinnamon, cloves, anise.

Experiment! And let the atmosphere of your home be saturated with the natural aromas of real Nature.

Maxim, I order raw materials from XXx, I think everything is fine with the quality of raw materials. The skill of mixing almond oil with essential oil in certain proportions? Are there any mixing tricks?) I make diffusers with alcohol and um, and the skill does not fail and the aroma is beautiful throughout the house :)
I decided to do it with base oil, and the result was not at all the same as described. I'd be grateful if you could tell me what's wrong. Thank you.

Well, first, the question of quality here is not obvious to me. Secondly, I do not always understand the position of people who buy in one place and consult in another;)
