Safe ear drops. Difficult choice: which drops from otitis should be preferred

Therapy for an inflamed ear involves complex treatment using inexpensive and effective ear drops, as well as antibiotics and physiotherapy. The combination of these methods allows you to eliminate inflammation in a minimum time without causing serious discomfort to the patient.

To combat severe pain, heat treatment is not suitable, so most doctors prescribe painkillers ear drops. They allow you to eliminate the cause of inflammation immediately after application. But are anesthetic ear drops and other medications equally good?

Inflammation in the ears appears suddenly and mainly in the evening when the body is significantly tired for the whole day. Pain and other symptoms during this time are extremely inconvenient.

In such a case, doctors recommend keeping drops with lidocaine in a home pharmacy. But before their introduction, it is necessary to understand the causes of pain, and if pus or mucus has appeared from the ears, it is important to establish the root cause in the ENT doctor's office.

Do not risk your health and do not treat yourself.

In some cases, the cause of the pain lies in the excessive work of the sulfur glands. With frequent cleaning of the ears with cotton swabs, sulfur is compacted in the ear canal and fills the entire space of the auditory canal.

With the penetration of water into this area, the patient feels the swelling of sulfur and painful sensations. To get rid of them, you need to carry out the washing procedure.

If sulfur secretions and, as a result, a plug formed due to professional activities or due to the penetration of dirt, or should be dripped into the ear. These medicines will eliminate the inflammation in one application, and the patient will return to hearing acuity.

But not always pain, itching and other symptoms appear due to sulfur deposits. Other reasons include:

  • otitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • inflammation of the labyrinth;
  • tumor formation;
  • water penetration;
  • problems with teeth;
  • penetration into the ear canal of a small insect or other foreign objects;
  • cyst in the brain.

To get rid of these causes, you need the help of an ear doctor, therefore, if you have any problems with your ears, consult a specialist.

Indications for the appointment of ear drops

Drops from inflammation in the ear are prescribed in the following cases:

Anti-inflammatory ear remedies are used for symptomatic therapy. They have a local effect, reducing swelling, but do not destroy the infection.

With internal otitis media and eustachitis, anti-inflammatory drops are not effective.

This is due to the removal of the focus of inflammation from the external passage. With perichondritis, antibiotics and antiseptics will better cope with the disease.

Types of drops

Ear preparations can have a different effect. They are divided into groups:

  1. Anti-inflammatory. They usually contain painkillers. Therapy is combined with antibiotics.
  2. Antibacterial. Designed to kill infection.
  3. Combined. Consist of a steroidal anti-inflammatory agent and an antibiotic.

The purulent form of otitis usually passes into the perforative stage. A hole is formed in the eardrum, and pus comes out through it. Most preparations for the ears with such a pathology are prohibited!

Usually only some antibacterial drops are prescribed, but not anti-inflammatory.

The disease often occurs along with a sore throat and flu.

Otitis externa is characteristic of people who use third-party objects (matches, sticks, etc.). In this regard, the integrity of the ear mucosa is violated, which leads to an inflammatory reaction. Often this process manifests itself in the form of a boil, which fester when pressed. With, increased body temperature and discomfort during swallowing movements.

If such symptoms are found, immediately consult a doctor. The doctor will determine the degree of development of the disease and prescribe the correct treatment.

Other causes of pain in the organs of hearing.

  2. Parotitis and abscesses of the parotid gland.
  3. Inflammatory process in the parotid cysts.
  4. The presence of arthritis and arthrosis in the jaw joint.

According to the number of drugs in the composition, they are divided into combined and monopreparations. The first contains several components. Monopreparations include only one medicinal substance. Regarding the principle of action, the following main groups are distinguished:

  1. Anti-inflammatory, reducing the manifestations of inflammation and having analgesic and drying effects. These include nonsteroidal drugs and drugs with the hormone glucocorticoid. Such drugs have an antibacterial effect, so they are indicated for diseases caused by bacteria entering the ear canal. This often occurs with a cold, a complication of which is otitis media, internal or external. The disease is an inflammation, accompanied by the release of pus from the auditory canal.

Monopreparations

These are special products with one active ingredient in the composition. They are indicated to eliminate the source of infection. Along with this, they have a complex analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, but they cannot be used for perforation of the eardrum. Among these drugs stand out Otinum and Otipaks. They are able to reduce the synthesis of prostaglandins that accompany the pathogenic process. For this reason, Otipax or Otinum is the very first to be used. In addition, they have a gentle effect, so they are prescribed for pregnant and lactating women.

Combined

Drops from this category have a wide antibacterial spectrum of action. Although they are not prescribed for every disease, they provide a good analgesic and antiviral effect, help to destroy infections. This is one of the few remedies that is considered safe for pregnant women. With a purulent form of otitis media, Otipax should not be used in any case. In case of perforation of the membrane, antibiotic therapy is prescribed with and in drops. Otitis externa is treated with drugs containing hydrocortisone, which is not toxic to the fetus.

How to drip drops in the ears

Using ear drops for otitis media or other inflammation, you must first warm them up in a water bath or hold them in your hand for a couple of minutes. This is necessary to warm the drug to body temperature, which will help to avoid vestibular reactions. You need to drip the medicine according to the following instructions:

  • lie on your side with the affected ear up;
  • pull up, out and back the upper pole of the auricle;
  • drip the medicine in the amount indicated by the instructions, it is better to inject it with a pipette;
  • press the tragus, massage so that the substance can be evenly distributed;
  • lie down for 10 minutes, plug the ear canal with a cotton swab, which will absorb the remnants of the oily liquid.

How to choose

The medicine is selected depending on the characteristics of the treatment and the cause of the disease. An equally important factor here is how the patient will use the drug, how correctly he will do it. It is necessary to choose drops according to their indications and the cause of inflammation. If it is caused by a bacterial infection, then a drug with antibiotics is required, and if it is a fungus, then antifungals. It is not worth prescribing a medicine on your own. It is better to leave it to the doctor, who, depending on the symptoms, will be able to prescribe the right drugs.
