8. Information about the add-on from the developers

The guys from the Hearthhead.com team were lucky enough to receive an invitation to Blizzard's headquarters and hear first-hand information about the upcoming addition. They spoke with the developers and key players about what's in store for us in Hearthstone.

Shortly thereafter, there was a promotional video published by Blizzard on the official Twitch channel. Rumors about the release of a new add-on have been around for a long time, and the video fully met the expectations of the gaming community. Despite the fact that the add-on itself will be released in late April or early May, the development team is obviously eager to tell you more about it.

“The Old Gods are huge creatures with tentacles and many eyes. It was they who created the Universe, ”Broad revealed the secret. "They enslaved Ragnaros, drove Deathwing mad, created the Nerubians and the Faceless Manipulators."

The Old Gods are truly fearsome creatures.

They are probably remembered even by those who have never played World of Warcraft, but were interested in the emergence of this fantasy world.

Now the influence of the ancient gods has spread out to creatures from Hearthstone. Some of them, such as the beloved Treasure Collectors and Ancient Healers, turned their backs on the Light and became Dirty Hoarders (4/2 creatures that cost 4 mana and draw a deathrattle) and Fel Healers (6/ 6, cost, 5 crystals and a death rattle that heals the enemy).

In some cases, the changes were much more difficult. Doomsayer's prophecy has come true! It became a Herald of Proven Doom, a 0/7 minion that gains attack power at the start of your turn. This means that Herald of Proven Doom cannot be destroyed by Master Hunter or neutralized by Aldor Peacekeeper immediately upon spawning.

The set of new creatures would be incomplete without the ancient gods themselves. The first of the four most powerful beings was C'Thun himself. It costs 10 crystals, has stats of 6/6, and deals damage equal to its attack power, randomly split among all enemy characters. It may seem to some that 6 damage is too weak for an ancient god, but it must be remembered that his strength lies in synergy with other creatures. In particular, 16 of the 134 cards in the new expansion are directly related to C'Thun. For example, Caller of Evil (2/3, 2 crystals) gives C'Thun +2/+2 wherever he is (in hand or on the board), and Twilight Ancestor (3/4, 3 crystals) gives C' Tunu +1/+1 at the end of your turn. Everything looks like Blizzard is trying to create a fundamentally new archetype. C'Thun's ability triggers instantly and fully justifies its high cost, but it is not yet known whether it will be possible to build full-fledged decks around it.

At first glance, everything sounds good, right? However, it would be a shame to get a power-up card, while not having the most ancient god on hand ... That is why Blizzard promises that each player will find C'Thun and two Evilcallers in the first set of cards they open. Post-launch Hearthstone players will be able to receive three free bundles, while those who pre-order will receive an exclusive Hearthstone-inspired Eye of C'Thun shirt.

Testing

To test C'Thun, two decks were created that included only announced and existing cards. The first of these was a mage deck with the spells Wave of Fire and Nova of Ice, which allow you to slow down the development of the enemy and strengthen C'Thun as much as possible. The magician's opponent was a druid with major provocateurs who were supposed to hold back the onslaught. We haven't been able to make any shocking revelations, but I must say that C'Thun's spawn animation is really impressive. We were not at all disappointed in the first of the ancient gods. He looks menacing and seriously affects the game situation. We hope that all other gods will have the same cost (10 crystals) and significance.

“Recently, the approach to card design has changed a bit, which is cool,” player Noxious from the Complexity team told us. "By putting so much emphasis on C'Thun, the developers want to force us to build decks around a single card."

"Perhaps in the near future - say, in two years - a separate archetype will appear," he added. So, with the release of a new add-on, at least one new archetype will appear in the game.

Combined with Brann Bronzebeard and well-known C'Thun cultists, he can be very effective. Even with an experienced hunter? Yes, because the effect works instantly, giving the opponent no time to recover.

There are rumors that Whispers of the Old Gods won't include new Inspired creatures or new races, but there will be new dragons. For obvious reasons, Broad was stingy with additional comments about the new maps, focusing on the announced changes.

In addition to C'Thun, we were able to test Herald of Proven Doom, Caller of Evil, and Twilight Ancestor, although the latter greatly slows down the pace of the game in the current meta. The decks we compiled were generally very slow and heavy, lacking spells to eliminate enemy creatures, so Herald of Proven Doom would often live to see the next turn. Since there are still new cards coming to the game, it is possible that the herald will not be as strong in the future.

Noxious commented, “I think the new version of Treasure Collector will find its way into specific combo decks. In control decks, it can be used to draw and control the board. It's kind of like a Dwarf Inventor with a delayed effect, which can be very useful in certain circumstances." Speaking of the controversial Herald of Proven Doom, Noxious clarified that "this card looks good in theory, somewhat reminiscent of Bolvar, but smart opponents always use silences, and the Herald's choice is rarely justified."

Upcoming changes

Some changes to Hearthstone will go into effect as early as next week.

"We're setting the stage for the launch of the new expansion and standard game mode," Wu said. - “The new patch will be released next week. Players will have access to nine additional deck slots. In addition, we have a test version of the interface for switching between standard and wild modes, so that players can see how it all works. Finally, the patch will include a new collection of deckbuilding tips that will allow all classes to enjoy playing."

As for map nerfs, Wu said that this will happen with the release of the expansion.

At the same time, he gave some arguments in defense of the decisions about the nerf.

“Many players get very frustrated when they find out that they will have to remove favorite cards from their decks - for example, Warsong Commander. We will announce all the changes closer to the release of the expansion, however, we have not yet decided what exactly the changes should be. I prefer to look at this issue philosophically and can state that we are currently looking at cards that play a critical role in the current meta. If we don't do this, standard mode will not be viable. In addition, we plan to revise some Druid cards, as decks for this class have an overabundance of cards from the core and standard sets.”

Regarding the way the nerf is handled, Broad elaborated that "the team is trying hard to improve existing maps, but often these problems are solved by simply changing the characteristics."

According to Broad, the developers are not at all trying to replace all outdated cards with new ones.

“For example, we do not want all mechanisms to disappear from the standard mode. We want Standard mode to change every year, and that doesn't necessarily mean copying cards from new sets. We aim to change the really good creatures by creating better versions of them,” Broad explained.

"We hope that with the release of the standard mode, a new page in the history of Hearthstone will begin," he added.

Arena

The genuine interest of developers in new modes does not mean at all that they have forgotten about the arena. Broad mentioned that Whispers of the Old Gods is in active testing - not only to fix class balance, but also to fully experience the synergy of the new cards.

"We're giving everyone C'Thun to keep players interested in getting cultists associated with him," Brode said. “We've found a lot of issues with Arena because Cultists are of low quality and C'Thun is one of the legendary cards that don't come up very often in this mode. We've made the decision not to include C'Thun in the arena list because it's almost impossible to play profitable combos here."

This is great news for those who are used to playing ranked and unranked battles with random players. In fact, for the first time, Blizzard representatives admitted that they excluded "unsuccessful" cards from a certain list. Obviously, they plan to do so in the future. This does not mean at all that creatures like the Storm of the Seas and the Magnataur Leader will disappear from the game, but the developers have expressed a clear desire to meet the players halfway.

Prospects for the future

What's next for Hearthstone? Recent changes give hope for further progress. There are rumors about improvements to the collection interface, which will allow more efficient sorting of cards by cost, attack power, quality, etc.

Blizzard has made it clear that it plans to release two expansions and one adventure within a year. It is possible that this will not be the end of the matter.

"We can continue to work in the same vein or do something different," - outlined the company's position Broad. He also explained to the players the reason why expansions and updates are released irregularly. Some like the hype that inevitably comes with new cards, while others take time to adjust. This process can take up to two months.

"The gap between the release of the League of Explorers and Wakes of the Old Gods may have been a bit longer than we expected, but we don't want to be predictable," Broad said. He stressed that the company primarily seeks to surprise and delight its players.

Are you looking forward to the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion? Do you like the upcoming innovations?

Hello everyone, friends! NeGamer is with you and today we will talk with you about the first announcement of the new Hearthstone add-on - Waking of the Old Gods or Whispers of the Old Gods (the first version is the official Russian-language version, and the second is the translation of the original).
I will not blah blah blah for a long time and immediately to the point.
Let's start with some numbers. The release date for the new Hearthstone expansion is late April/early May 2016. The next part of the Awakening of the Old Gods addon cards will be shown on March 21st. The introduction of standard and wild modes is planned along with the release of the entire add-on. From March 15, pre-order for packs is available - 50 pieces for 2500 rubles (as many as 10 boosters as a gift and a unique shirt).

Now the reasoning. What surprised me the most after (during) the announcement of the new Hearthstone expansion was that we were all expecting a tech patch like this. In other words, first of all, ordinary players are interested in changes in the balance, since many were upset, and some were frankly infuriated by the current meta, consisting mainly of Face Shamans, the Secret of the Palladins and of course the Druids. Of course, there are also less popular, albeit very effective, decks like Zoolock, Patron Warrior or the old Face Hunt. Other variations of the decks are more for gourmets, perverts and streamers, who on streams can pour ranked with something like Renault Rogue and then, outside the stream, rise with ordinary trend decks.

In this regard, everyone was waiting for the release of the standard mode with thoughts about the global rebalancing of the game. Some kind of reboot that will make Hearthstone more of an esports game with more skill than randomness. But the guys from Blizzard are simple people - they see the problem and introduce new cards, removing others. In short Gods is....it's a completely different type of gameplay.

I’ll say right away that C’Thun will be given out to EVERYONE FOR FREE. Legendary, fuck her kids!

C'Thun is the most important god who gets buffed wherever he is. Those. being placed in your deck, it can be buffed both in your hand and on the table, and just lying in your deck. He will have 16 servants who will be able to buff their god. C'Thun and 16 of his servants are a separate company. In addition to them, there will be 3 more gods, but it is not clear whether they will have their own servants. And yes, C'Thun and his servants will not be in the Arena. This information is not on the official Blizzard website. There are some videos, pictures, a slogan and other rubbish.

So, as I said, a new kind of gameplay opens before us: you take the god C’Thun and the cards that buff him into the deck and get a profit from the god’s exit. In the case of C'Thun, this is a war cry of randomly distributed damage to all opponent's creatures (similar to the Avenging Wrath card), including his face, equal to the size of the buffed attack of the god's legendary. The mechanics themselves, I think, are understandable, but if not, then at the Blizzy presentation they showed a video where they rocked God to stat 14/14, in connection with which he distributed C’Thun well.

Entering the table, C'Thun cleared the entire table and left the opponent's hero with 2 hit points. In short, he turned a winning game for the magician into a loss and a burning ass.

After the announcement of the new add-on Wake of the Old Gods, the community began to discuss what it was like to play with such a deck on various forums. Many examples have been given of the type of deck on Malygos or Reno, but this is all garbage. IMHO. There is such an effective deck as Secret Paladin or Secret Pal (in the English manner). Although it doesn't burn me. That's honest. I am for everyone to play with those decks that he likes and enjoy the game, and Face Hunt is either Face Shaman or Secret Paladin, I don’t give a damn. But this is a departure from the topic. So, I think that the deck on C'Thun will be very similar to the game on the Paladin. Why? Yes, because both decks contain cards (will be contained) that play well both separately and terribly synergize with each other. A Paladin deck has an average of 7 Secrets, 2 Secretaries, 2 Pretenders, and Tyrion. A total of 11 mandatory cards, to which are added a few more like 2x jugglers, 2x call to battle, 2x minibots, etc. In the deck with C'Thun there will be him and his minions, for a total of 16 obligatory good cards in themselves. Do you catch the parallel? It's the same...

What is there to say. All the forums have already agreed that C'Thun decks will be able to easily assemble Control Vara, Warlocks and Druids. They will be able to buff it very easily, cheapen it very easily with the help of Thaurissan and endure until the god C’Thun enters the field, and he, with his battle cry, is able to simply destroy the opponent’s table and his face. At the same time, if Blizzard usually shows only approximately 50% of the possible strength of the cards, then K'Tuniska will do everything at least 20. This is how a new type of decks turns out. Whether it's good or bad, you'll know...

On the other hand, yes, we all want a consistently good Midrange Hunter, Midrange Druid with his combo, maybe just a little more expensive, but Blizzes can’t make nerfs like those in the same Dota when any of the heroes is knocked out to the status of Imba and raises a high on this score, then the developers simply “cut” him and everyone is happy in the end. And it turns out that if there is an imbalanced shredder, then it’s better to immediately cut out the whole add-on with it and instead introduce a new one with a new imbalance. Know comments.

In general, now, in addition to Reno decks, decks on dragons, another type will appear - decks on C'Thun. The clearly positive aspects include the fact that this legendary will be given out to everyone for free along with 3 packs. Therefore, the dominance of C'Thunyachy decks is guaranteed. The developers explain this move by the fact that it is necessary and has a large collection of cards. And since there will be a dominance of such decks, it will be stunned how many mirror matches (namely on K'Thun. The class does not really play a role yet), which means that it will decide the game in 99% of cases randomly - whoever puts the god on the chair first, he will won, because not every table and face can withstand damage of 20+. And now imagine how you feel when you are not lucky! Oh, how the chair will burn under you ...

That's all for me. New cards will be in the next articles

Thanks to all!

Below are the new cards from the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion.

The release date is the point in time after which the game is considered released, which usually means that it can already be downloaded and tested if you purchase a licensed copy. For example, the release date for Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods is April 27, 2016.

Recently, more and more developers allow you to buy the game in advance - to make a pre-order. In response to the support from potential buyers, who believe so much in the success of the project that they give money for it even before the release, the developers share various bonuses and exclusive materials. It can be a soundtrack, an artbook, or some mini-addons for the game.

Thus, a pre-order actually allows you to buy the game before its official release, but this does not mean that the announced release date loses its meaning, since you can fully play only after the release.

Why do you need to know release dates for games?

If only because it is more convenient to plan your time and finances. If you know, for example, when Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods will be released, then it will be easier for you to navigate: set aside money in advance to buy it, plan things so that you can immerse yourself in the game as soon as she will come out.

A lot of gamers keep track of game release dates with special calendars and feature articles about the most important releases of the month or season. You can find both on our game portal site.

How do developers choose when to release?

They are guided by many factors at once. Firstly, it is important for them to know that their target audience will be able to immediately join the gameplay, so games are less likely to be released during the holiday season, as well as in those months when work is usually all hands on deck and students have a session.

Secondly, for a successful release, developers are trying to compare their plans with the announcements of potential competitors. For example, if we are talking about a shooter, then releasing it simultaneously with the new Battlefield or Call of Duty is not very reasonable.

Thirdly, the release date indicates the so-called deadline - the very line after which the game is already ready. This means that it must be completed within the stated time. Alas, this does not always work out, and therefore the release date of the game can be shifted one or even several times.

In addition to this, the release of Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods on PC and consoles may differ - often developers try to release one version first, and only then move on to the next.

Breaking newsAn ancient evil has awakened from a centuries-old slumber. Stretching its tentacles, it prepares to wreak havoc among mortals. The third expansion for Hearthstone is about to see the light - "Wake of the Old Gods".

Whispers in the dark

Legend has it that no mortal can resist the ominous whispering of the ancient gods. Since time immemorial, these mighty and terrible deities have been sleeping like a dead sleep in the bowels of the earth and the depths of the ocean. But lately there have been rumors that through the veil of drowsiness, explosions of laughter, joyful exclamations and the clatter of mugs that fill taverns have penetrated into their sleepy world. We are probably the ones to blame for the awakening of the ancient gods.

One way or another, the nameless* monsters are awakening, and terrible filth rushes from the abyss to the surface. However, be afraid practically there is nothing. Our civilization bye in safety. Quite may be that the ancient gods are not going to destroy all life in Azeroth.

After stretching their tentacles and other limbs, rubbing all their eyelids swollen from sleep and having a hearty breakfast, the ancient gods set out to place their dark power in the hands of mortals ... in the form of terribly powerful Hearthstone cards!

Chaos in decks

The Whispers of the Old Gods expansion promises great power for players: if the timeless cosmic entities have promised you something, then rest assured that it will not seem enough. You will be able to replenish your collection with one hundred and thirty-four disgustingly beautiful new cards.

And these are no ordinary cards! They are imbued with the dark energy of the ancient gods. For the most part, your decks will be replenished with new, yet unseen monsters, but there will also be old acquaintances who could not resist the temptation to acquire the Ancient Cosmic Power**.

ancient gods

New to Whispers of the Old Gods are four Legendary Old God cards. By adding them to the collection, you will gain supernatural power. Four ancient gods: C'Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y'Shaarj and N'Zoth - stretched out along the string (or vice versa, sway and writhe) and are ready to send indescribable nightmares to your opponents.

C'Thun is especially interested in the prospect of playing with you***. And with the legendary C'Thun card and two Evilcallers, even the most sophisticated will envy your collection. All you need to do is purchase and print the first set of Whispers of the Old Gods to acquire them, and your new dubious allies will immediately respond to your call.

Call of C'Thun

What is an ancient deity without a retinue of fanatical sectarians? C'Thun's followers are earnestly preparing for his awakening, so every time you place a cultist card on the board, C'thun's power increases. It does not matter if his card is in your hand, on the field or in the deck.

Pre-order (soon)

Starting March 15, you will be able to pre-order 50 packs of add-on cards at a price of 2500 rubles. (2900 rubles for iOS). You will receive a freakishly beautiful card back as a gift!

Attack is imminent

All mortals (especially Windows®, Mac®, iOS® and Android® device owners) will feel the coming of the Old Gods very soon: in late April or early May. Card packs can be purchased from the in-game store for gold or real money for the same price as the less macabre packs of previous Hearthstone expansions.

Cards from the Whispers of the Old Gods sets will be available to use in Arena on the day of the expansion, even if you haven't dared to add them to your collection yet.
