The Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language by V. I. Dahl is by far the most famous Russian explanatory dictionary. Until today, despite the existence of predecessor dictionaries, dialectal, diachronic, jargon dictionaries, multi-volume modern lexicographic descriptions, from time to time it turns out that the Dalev Dictionary reflects the Russian language more accurately or more completely. This is a collection of Russian vocabulary, related mainly to dialects and professional jargons, compiled by a self-taught amateur who repeatedly urged to write as we speak, not to preach letters as salvation, not to make any sacrifices for its universal establishment (St. Petersburg Vedomosti, 1857 , $ 245), who advocated the complete deliverance of the Russian language from foreign borrowings. The dictionary contains a certain amount of unreliable material (occasional words), sometimes sins against grammar (for example, the prefix is regularly called a preposition), but paradoxically accurately conveys both the linguistic realities of the 19th century and the expressiveness of the dialects that still exist.

In the book version, Dahl's Dictionary becomes a kind of monument with violations of the norms of the modern compiler of the Russian language, who is increasingly moving away from our contemporaries, despite the colossal number of republications. All reprints were carried out in a reprint way, which saved not only publishers' mistakes and typographical errors, but also difficulties in deciphering the word search mechanism laid down by the author.

In preparing this reissue, we decided to adapt the Dalev Dictionary, based, in particular, on the fact that it is unlikely that each of us is able to type a word for searching not only in the old, pre-reform graphics, but also in the specific spelling of V. I. Dahl . The proposed republication is made on the basis of the second edition (1880-1882) and does not preserve the graphic and spelling features of the edition. In our attempt to bring the text closer to modern standards, we observed the fundamental requirements of the author. The characteristic spellings of dialect words, the author's style and punctuation are left unchanged. In particular, by allowing ourselves to rearrange dictionary entries in the order of the modern alphabet, we preserve the spelling and, accordingly, the place of some dictionary units, even if this contradicts modern standards in the case when V. I. Dal tried to show the sound or origin of the word being explained by such a record . Next, in angle brackets, we placed the same word in its current form, for example. sheromyzhnik. By the way, this, it seems to us, makes it possible not to check yourself every time in the spelling dictionary if you are not sure about the spelling.

The release of V. Dahl's Dictionary in modern Russian spelling will help overcome the well-known psychological barrier (especially for the younger generation), which prevents its inclusion in today's practice. The presence of a search engine turns the Dictionary of V. Dahl into an inexhaustible source of quotations, figurative expressions, sayings.

The Dictionary of the Russian Language by S. I. Ozhegov is the very first one published in Russia (USSR) after the October Revolution, and today a unique one-volume explanatory dictionary of the Russian language. For the first time in Russian lexicography, a one-of-a-kind explanatory dictionary was compiled - a normative manual accessible to all, created to help improve the culture of speech of the general public and designed to serve as a guide to the correct use of words, the correct formation of word forms, correct spelling and pronunciation. In this dictionary, from the entire huge variety of vocabulary of the modern literary Russian language, its extract was formed, in a concise and accessible form, the traditions of Russian literary speech that developed in the middle of the last century are described. Work on the dictionary, which appeared for the first time in 1949, began immediately before the Great Patriotic War. The initial edition of the dictionary was compiled by prof. V. A. Petrosyan, G. O. Vinokur, as well as acad. S. P. Obnorsky as chief editor. S. I. Ozhegov did not stop working on the dictionary until the end of his life, improving its composition and structure. In the supplemented and revised version, the dictionary was published twice during his lifetime - in 1960 and 1952 (the rest of the versions were stereotyped). The second and fourth editions of the dictionary, revised by the author, radically differed from the first in volume (it became more by almost 40 author's sheets) and also in content. S. I. Ozhegov was going to prepare a revised and enlarged edition for publication, but death prevented the implementation of these plans.

The best dictionary ever.

Another plus is the interface in Material Design. For some, this may not matter, but for lovers of this concept, it will be a very pleasant surprise. The entire interface consists of tabs, between which it is very convenient to navigate with familiar gestures. The first tab contains an alphabetical index, as well as a search string, which in an instant will allow you to find any word, unless, of course, it is in the dictionary. Search "live", i.e. as soon as you start typing something, the result immediately appears on the screen. There are also two search masks, one of which checks the first letters of each word, and the second - the last. Opposite each word there are two special buttons that allow you to add the word to your favorites or bookmarks. There is a difference between these sections, because in bookmarks you can create something like categories. The next tabs correspond to favorite words and bookmarks, and the last one is the history of viewed words. A viewed word is considered only if you opened its card.
