Lingo is a great word trainer for learning new languages. English simulator

There are many ways to learn foreign languages, and mobile applications are not the last among them. One such app is the Lingo vocabulary trainer, which makes it easy to learn and memorize words in 12 of the most popular languages: English (British and American), French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Turkish and of course Russian .

The essence of Lingo is the visual perception of new words and their memorization through repetition. By carving out just 10 minutes a day for learning a language, in a few days you will expand your vocabulary and easily be able to use new words in communication. Whether you're studying for final exams, practicing before traveling abroad, or just looking to expand your knowledge, Lingo is a great way to achieve any of these goals at minimal cost.

In total, Lingo has more than 5,000 words on a variety of topics (more than 100 topics). In addition, there are special levels and groups, as well as four levels of difficulty, allowing you to adapt to the abilities of each person.

The application interface is as simple and clear as possible. At the first start, we are offered to register an account or log in through one of the social networks to synchronize progress. We select the language, proficiency level and look into the settings, where you can specify the time for reminders, select your native language, change the level and reassign other options.

The main screen contains quick statistics showing the number of words studied and the actual lessons, each of which is divided into thematic collections. They refer to certain places, professions, situations, and so on.

Choose any lesson and start learning. We look at the word card and, if you know it, mark it or send it for repetition. If necessary, you can view the spelling of the word and listen to the pronunciation by clicking on the corresponding icons next to the card. By swiping to the side, you can switch between cards until you have viewed them all.

Each lesson also has options that allow you to fine-tune the learning process. You can set the type of cards ("All", "To be repeated", "Unmarked") and their sequence ("In order", "Randomly").

The learning process is quite simple and fun, all you need to do is run Lingo regularly and practice the words by looking at the flashcards. Repeat each word several times, and the result will not be long in coming.

All content is available in the app for free. The only limitation that the full version for 119 rubles removes is the 50-word limit for adding in each category and pronunciation. Viewing cards and writing words will always be available.

Learning a foreign language is a serious job that requires a lot of concentration, time and persistence. In addition, you need to develop vocabulary and constant practice. Lingo will effectively help with the first, and we will talk about the second separately at the end of the review.

What is the foundation of any language, its basis, necessary for communication and understanding? Rules, times? These are very important elements, but they are responsible for the literacy of the speaker, and the foundation of communication is still vocabulary. This is what allows you to build an application Lingo. Moreover, the development team was not limited to only English, and the list of supported options inspires respect:

  • English (British)
  • English (American)
  • French
  • Deutsch
  • Spanish
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Turkish
  • Arab

Moreover, over time, EasyLanguage plans to add other Asian and European languages too, as I was told by a company representative.

All this is fine, but, as any person studying foreign languages knows, not all methods of memorizing foreign words are equally effective. We will talk further about what kind of vocabulary formation Lingo uses.

Lingo teaching methodology

Remember how you learned foreign words at school (or at a higher educational institution). I assume that the scheme used in my training program has survived to this day, since it is effective. In particular, the teacher wrote down the words on the board, pronounced them and asked the class to copy these words into a personal dictionary, for which we started separate notebooks. I was in a class with in-depth study of English, and we immediately used thick common notebooks for vocabulary, since the vocabulary program was much more voluminous than in regular classes. Plus, in addition to the words themselves, we also recorded their phonetic transcription (a textual description of the correct pronunciation of the word). Why so many difficulties when the same words can simply be read from a printed (or electronic in modern realities) dictionary and memorized from there? It's all about associative thinking of a person.

We cannot store information effectively like a computer. If you just memorize something, then you will forget what you have memorized in three days, because the information does not have an associative link. After all, when you remember something, first of all, images appear in your head, and not ready-made words and data. And the brighter the image associated with this or that information, the more associations, the better the memorization will be, and the data will be stored in memory longer.

In the case of the example of studying foreign words at school described above, you create a sound association of a word in your head by pronouncing it yourself or remembering how the teacher says it, the physical association of hand movement during writing and the graphic association of the word written in the notebook are also preserved. And the graphic association was often supplemented by teachers with bright pictures during the lessons.

Thus, remembering a particular word, your brain will first of all evoke associations associated with it. Someone's memory retains images better, and he will remember a page from the dictionary and literally mentally read the word, someone will see a bright picture in front of his inner eye, someone will remember the voice of the teacher pronouncing the word, or his own.

Associative memory is the most efficient and it is the one used to the maximum in Lingo.

That is, you see a vivid graphic image of a word, you can hear how it is pronounced, see how it is spelled, and as a result you get three associations at once. Thanks to the easy, maximally simplified interface, words seem to “eat” into the brain, nothing distracts from their associative storage in memory for subsequent intuitive use in conversation literally on a subconscious level. And, believe me, the above is not a marketing frenzy. I've been actively using the app for a few days and it actually works exactly as described above. But let's take a look at Lingo's interface and system in more detail.

Associative vocabulary building in Lingo

The application is universal, you can use it on iPhone and iPad, and at the same time, and your progress will be synchronized via the cloud. But for this you need to register in the system, which is done in a couple of tens of seconds in the traditional way via E-mail or through one of the popular social networks:

In theory, synchronization should work automatically without a hitch. Perhaps, when registering through social networks, it works that way. But I used the classic way with E-mail and, unfortunately, the personal progress made on the iPhone did not make it to the iPad. To my topic question, one of the developers replied that the synchronization system had already changed several times due to various circumstances, whether it was an iOS update or a social network API, which could provoke an error. He promised to fix everything in the next update.

Pay attention to the selected level of difficulty. I recommend setting it to advanced (or do it in the options later) if you plan to learn words not by topic, but by difficulty level. The higher the difficulty, the more word cards available. At the average level, there are about 3000 , at the maximum - over 5100 in English. If you have chosen an intermediate or beginner level and try to learn words of a higher level, then you will see a message about the absence of vocabulary cards.

At first, this moment even confused me - I decided that the developer had not yet added all the levels, and would do it later. But it was worth choosing the level in the options " Expert' as all the cards appeared.

On the other hand, if you prefer to learn words, dividing them not by difficulty level, but by topic, then you should already select the level individually. I personally decided to study words precisely according to the level of complexity, moving from the simplest. I was surprised by the fact that the main screen does not display the overall progress in a particular section, although inside each of them you can clearly see which part of the words you have studied in each lesson or topic. An EasyLanguage representative explained it this way:

The progress bar on the home screen is disabled due to old Apple devices such as iPhone 4, iPad first generation, iPod. They can't cope with additional content and the application starts to slow down, which is not very pleasant in terms of sensations. And the number of users of such gadgets is almost 40%. Over time, when the old phones are gone, we will include a progress bar on the main screen.

Well, the reason is clear, but what prevents you from making this feature optional, with the ability to activate it in the application settings?

However, all the words you learned in the sections by difficulty level are clearly counted in the general topics, and you can clearly see the progress by entering each of them. When the same progress is visible on the main screen, it will become generally good.

As you can see, there are a huge number of different topics: clothes, furniture, dishes, professions, etc. There is a breakdown of topics by type of activity (student, businessman, tourist ...) and by certain places (restaurant, city, home ...). That is, you are going on a trip and would like to improve or develop the vocabulary that you will need in another country - select the section " I'm a tourist» (« I'm a tourist") and work.

The design of the cards is excellent - high-quality photographs clearly demonstrate the word being studied, and the picture literally cuts into memory. If you already know this word, just click on the button " I know”, and it will be added to the list of studied. If the word is unfamiliar and it is hard to remember, then press " Gotta repeat” and later, when you have a free minute, go through these words again until they are remembered:

Pay attention to the simplicity of design of each card. Initially, you see a bright image that can be instantly associated with a word you already know, or, if you don’t know it, click on the eye icon to see its text version. Would you like to hear this word? Just click on the ear icon. Everything is simple.

Readers may have a fair question: Why is there no translation of the words?". I also asked one of the developers and received the following answer:

Studying words and constantly using their translation, when communicating, people begin to remember the word first in their native language, then look in their head for a translation into the language they want to say, they cannot remember and, as a result, they are stupid in communication. And if you just remember the images and, for example, the graphic image of the pen and what this image means " pen”, then the results in communication are much better, since the language is learned instinctively. Therefore, people who have come abroad and have not previously learned the language speak much faster and more confidently in six months than those who have learned the language. I say this from personal experience, having lived in the UK for four years.

However, with future updates to the Lingo app, a word translation button will be added just for the sake of user convenience, so that you do not have to look for it in other sources, if in principle it is not clear what is meant. I had such questions a couple of times when I didn’t know the words and couldn’t understand what exactly I needed to study. One such case was with the word " Poultry", meaning in English " poultry”, but I could not understand whether the picture was of a turkey, or a plucked chicken, or some other creature. I had to go to the dictionary to finally form the exact association in my memory.

Otherwise, there are no complaints. Unless I, as an old-school English teacher, lack transcription a little, but it is completely replaced by the voice acting of words.

The application seems to be free, but, in fact, for free you get only a demo version with three dozen words. To access all the other several thousand words, you need to pay 119 rub. via In-App, which I think is perfectly reasonable, if not cheap, given the functionality of the app. And I am writing this not for the sake of some kind of advertising PR, but as a person who constantly studies English, since I need it in my work. The Lingo trainer has been permanently registered in the personal training section on the iPhone, along with, and several other applications, complementing them perfectly. I strongly recommend the reviewed application to all those who study foreign languages or wish to expand / restore their vocabulary - it really works.

pros:

  • an important component in the general program of learning a foreign language - allows you to build a foundation in the form of an extensive vocabulary;
  • the most effective associative method of memorizing words is applied;
  • simple, intuitive interface that does not distract from the learning process;
  • you can work in short sessions of 5-10 minutes at any time of the day or night (in general, this is how you need to work - the more often you repeat the words, the better they will be remembered);
  • support for 12 languages;
  • high-quality photos and good voice acting.

Minuses:

  • there are problems with synchronization between devices (they promise to fix it with the next release);
  • on the main screen, the overall progress by sections is not visible (will appear in the future);
  • there is no translation of words in the cards.

What the developer promised to implement in the near future:

  • translation of words in cards;
  • simple gamification (game elements will be added to stimulate the use of the simulator more often and longer);
  • vocabulary expansion;
  • Android app version.

Finally, I will give perhaps a banal, but effective advice for those who would like to practice communication in English (the most useful foreign language today) more often and improve their skills in it. Watch foreign films and series in the original with subtitles (start with Russian, then you can switch to English). Firstly, the original voice acting in most cases is much better than the translated one, and the sound quality is better. Secondly, it is a good way to practice understanding foreigners who speak English fluently. Thirdly, almost everything that you hear (or see the translation in subtitles, if you do not have time to catch the meaning in the sound) is stored on a subconscious level, and then at the right moments this knowledge pops up in your memory and helps in communicating with foreigners or in work, if it is related to the English language. All this is verified by personal experience.

The simulator allows you to learn the translation and spelling of English words online. For ease of learning, the words are grouped by topic and difficulty level:

  • Level 1 meets the requirements of the vocabulary of secondary schools.
  • Level 2 includes the most common words of the language in each topic.
  • Level 3 contains words used in professional activities.

Of course, the division of English words into levels is very arbitrary.

Translation of English words

The English word simulator allows you to learn a large number of words in a short time. Most curricula teach words in groups based on topics. Our simulator also works on this principle. When studying translation, one meaning of a word is given in each topic, sometimes two meanings, if they are commonly used. For example, the translation of the word blue: blue, cyan.

Note . If several variants of the translation of the same word are studied in the topic, then these variants are indicated by a number in brackets. The Russian meanings of the English word themselves are studied in alphabetical order. Example, word translation blue:

  • blue(1) - blue;
  • blue(2) - blue.

This scheme is used for ease of memorization.

Spelling of English words

The main and rare feature of our simulator is learning the spelling of words online. It also provides the ability to correct errors when typing words.

Additional features:

  • within a topic, you can study words in groups of 3, 5, 10 words;
  • the results of the exercise are saved automatically when it is completed;
  • work on mistakes - repetition of learning such words.

Program restrictions

In the current version of the program, exercise statistics are tied to your IP-address. If your ISP assigns you dynamic IP-addresses, in this case, our simulator will not be able to work stably.

An interesting English conversation simulator, which contains hundreds of thematic cards for learning the language. This site is suitable even for beginners. There are also more complex tasks for finding synonyms and antonyms for phrases, exercises for irregular verbs, listening, reading and much more. The simulator will help develop almost all English skills at the same time.

Thus, your social memory is trained and English is fixed for a long time. Many linguists claim that this is the most natural and effective method of learning any foreign language. Be sure to try it and see for yourself!

«

A lot of people today want to learn English quickly, systematically, and qualitatively. This is especially true for those who want to move to live or work in an English-speaking country, or for those who connect their lives with the English language, acquiring the profession of an interpreter or an English teacher. It will be convenient for everyone to use an English simulator in learning a language, for example, Lim English. There are many trainers. This simulator is convenient in that it has several courses for all people, regardless of what level of English they have.

Oleg Limansky developed his Lim English technique as a simulator of English words and not only. By this technique, you can learn the whole language. And, you can do it yourself, for free, spending 30-40 minutes your time per day. The author of the method himself has already mastered several languages thanks to his method. Moreover, he constantly improves and refines it for the past 8 years.

The author concluded that the language base is not so important in learning English. In one lesson, the English simulator online gives you the opportunity to learn English with the help of listening(English listening comprehension) dictionary(expanding vocabulary) dictation(the exercise trains speech and writing literacy), interpretation(for correct pronunciation) translation(for teaching translation skills). In addition, the lesson includes grammar and work on perfect mistakes. Limansky's program - an online English simulator can tell you the correct spelling of a word or its pronunciation.

A huge advantage of the simulator program is that the author of the new method paid a lot of attention to listening. All recordings are prepared with the help of native speakers, because this is the only way a person can master English, perceive foreign speech by ear.

The Limansky simulator has 4 difficulty levels, from beginner to advanced English. There are more than 500 lessons in total.

The basis of the simulator program is that a person can train reading, listening, and writing at the same time. Develop all these skills. There are many exercises for this. For example, dictation. When the announcer reads the text, the student must write it without seeing the translation, but only listening to the text. You can also simplify the task by opening a window with text translation. The translation exercise provides that the student sees a Russian text that needs to be translated into English. The student translates by choosing the right words from the cards provided and putting them in the correct order.

The advantage of the simulator is that you do not need to stupidly memorize individual words. You listen to the sentence, you know how the word sounds, and you memorize it faster, because the association with the sentence that you listened to is immediately developed.

The English simulator program has the ability to repeat the text, it also contains a certain number of errors that are acceptable in the construction of a sentence. Depending on the number of your mistakes, the phrase will be repeated several times.

The online English simulator is convenient because you can use it at any time, the lessons are not too long. At the same time, the benefits of the lessons are colossal. Learning with the simulator is pleasant and not annoying. Very often, when we learn to write individual words in English or understand them, we ourselves, without noticing it, think it would be faster to get rid of it - that's all. This program is designed to interest people.

The English simulator will help those who have enough of their own motivation to learn the language. When learning with the Lim English simulator, the lessons really fly by. Each lesson is aimed at something different, each will help you memorize many new words and whole phrases. And it happens in a fun way, no need to force yourself to learn. The learning time flies by.

Using Oleg Limansky's methodology, you can learn any foreign language with a guaranteed result. And believe me, it will be much easier for you if you have zero knowledge and other, outdated language teaching methods have not been "pushed" into your head. What is important is not the classical way of learning and not the time spent. Only one result is important, which is indisputable, thanks to the English simulator lim English.
