Do I need to install a new Flash memory chip or can I use the old one.

The Flash memory error has nothing to do with the performance of the Flash memory chip (S29GL032N90TFI04) - this is a software error that has been fixed in versions starting with V61.17.12Z from July 21, 2012. However, we are installing a new microcircuit, this increases by an order of magnitude speed repair, since the remnants of solder and flux on the legs of the dismantled microcircuit do not always allow consistently fast flash it in the programmer.

Whether the Flash memory dump posted in the publication is suitable for all board revisions.

We can’t give an exact answer, I personally checked it on revisions G, H, K. A colleague sent a dump, which, according to him, fits all revisions. We tested this version on revisions G, K - we think it will work on the rest as well. Dumps have some minor differences:

  • The proposed dump from the trade union of KKT service engineers, when the printer is first turned on, lights up with an orange indicator for 3-15 seconds, and then turns green, after which it is required to flash the printer with the version.
  • The dump proposed by a colleague, when you first turn on the printer, the orange indicator lights up for 40-50 seconds, and then the flashing green-red lights up, after which you need to flash the printer with software version V61.17.17Z dated December 30, 2013.

After the firmware, the paper sensor stopped working, when the tape advance key is pressed, 3-7 labels come out. Calibration does not print the signal level from the sensor.

After flashing, the printer is constantly lit with an orange indicator. The board was inspected, re-soldered - there are no soldering defects.

As strange as it may sound, this is a soldering defect. All, everything, boards with "no soldering defect" that came in for repair had a soldering defect. For example, a colleague has three!!! printers did not solder 38 legs.

This chip was changed twice, until finally the client sent the printer to us for repair. It's amazing, with 13 legs hanging in the air, the rest are soldered just perfectly, we just need to solder these legs and the printer started working. The client swore that the quality of the soldering was checked by two specialists, this is more than strange, since the defect is detected even with the naked eye.

Another example. A colleague changed the flash memory and after that the printer switched to the red indicator mode. Moreover, the printer was not detected and was not available to change the software. As always, the situation was resolved by re-soldering the flash memory chip.



The red glow of the indicator is also poor-quality soldering of the flash memory chip.

After changing the Flash dump and subsequent firmware with a new version, the printer started working. Is this repair completed?

To avoid returns after repairs, it is advisable to calibrate/check the paper sensor and/or perform a factory reset.

Calibration (manual) - with the green indicator on, press and hold the tape advance key, waiting for a block of 7 green blinks, then release the key.

Reset to factory settings (automatic calibration) - with the green indicator on, press and hold the tape advance key, waiting for a block of 4 green blinks, then release the key.

Which programmer is required to program the Flash memory chip (S29GL032N90TFI04).

We use a ChipProg+ programmer with an AE-TS48-16Am adapter.

The colleague unsubscribed that he uses the AutoProg SE USB programmer with the AP / TS48A "sandwich", which consists of:

Is it possible to use the AE-TS48-16Am adapter to directly read Flash memory chips from a broken flash drive to recover information, they seem to fit according to the block.

In the case of the ChipProg + programmer, it is not, in most cases it is a different adapter, since flash drives contain Samsung Flash memory chips. We do not know about other programmers.

When changing software, the programming process slider runs 100% in 1-2 seconds. We replace the software using the parallel port. You have about 20 seconds.

Indeed, the process of changing software via the parallel port is quite fast, much faster than via USB. For example, our printer is flashed in 3-5 seconds, with firmware, somewhere around 70%, the slider briefly thinks and continues its course again. In practice, there were options when the slider flew by in 1 second, while the printer was not flashed. In this case, you need to check the parallel port settings in the BIOS - it should be EPP, then delete all printers sitting on the parallel port, except for the Zebra TLP2824 Plus printer.

In the Zdownloader program, press the Auto-Detect key, but the printer is not located, the cable is known to be good, it was checked on another printer.

Rather, you are trying to change software on a parallel or COM port. Using the Auto-Detect button, you can find a printer with a USB interface; to flash the printer via a parallel or COM port, you must manually specify the connection parameters.
