Popular travel destinations. Russia: figures and facts

Most Popular Destinations

Russian citizens have become noticeably less interested in traveling abroad for the New Year holidays. At the same time, the demand for domestic tourism is growing. Those who used to spend their New Year holidays at the ski resorts of Europe rushed to Sochi. And also faced with rising prices. The main reason for what happened was the sharp fall of the ruble against the dollar and the euro, as foreign tours have risen in price even with the unchanged “price tag” of suppliers.

Vladislav Shevtsov, CEO of the DaTravel.com project (an online portal for booking air tickets, hotels and entertainment), told Expert Online about what is happening in the tourism market today, whether domestic tourism benefits from the rise in the cost of foreign holidays, and why Russian resorts are becoming more expensive.
- How much did the tourist market sink by the end of this year? Is there any data on how many people decided to stay at home and did not go anywhere for the New Year holidays? I mean both abroad and in Russia.

It is difficult to say by the exact number of people. But such numbers can be cited. The drop in sales is 27.5% in the most popular destinations in Europe, such as Prague, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Milan, London. Such directions as Vienna, Rome, Milan, Prague and Paris especially strongly “sagged”. At the same time, part of the tourists reoriented from foreign tours to domestic ones.

If in November the number of bookings of Russian destinations on the DaTravel.com website was 33%, then in December the share of bookings increased to 52%.
- What happens to prices? The fact that the cost of foreign tours in rubles has increased is understandable, but what explains the increase in prices for domestic tourism and is there any at all?

In Russian destinations, there is no increase in prices for the hotel product yet, at the moment there is a usual seasonal increase associated with the New Year holidays in popular Russian destinations - Krasnaya Polyana, Golden Ring, Simferopol. But, most likely, a slight increase in prices should also be expected for Russian hotels, since hotels pay with some suppliers in foreign currency, plus the cost of food prices, gasoline and other expenses rises.

Despite an increase in airline costs due to currency appreciation, the average cost of an order per person on domestic routes decreased by 6.3% compared to the beginning of October. The reason is an increase in the depth of sales: in an effort to save money, customers try to purchase tickets in advance at more affordable prices. Compared to October 2014, the depth of sales within the Russian Federation in the order structure of DaTravel.com has quadrupled. A striking example of this process is the Moscow-Novosibirsk direction, the average price tag for which decreased from 8,900 rubles to 8,500 rubles with an increase in the depth of sales from 2 to 8 days.

The same trend can be traced in the booking of Russian hotels. The average check for Russian hotels has not changed and amounted to 6,500 rubles. The depth of hotel bookings has grown significantly and amounted to 45 days, when it usually stays around 30 days in Russian destinations. They still book trips for the New Year, mainly destinations such as St. Petersburg and Sochi. Currently, DaTravel.com already has bookings for the March and May holidays - people want to have time to book their trips before prices go up.

- And how do foreign partners of Russian companies behave? Do they make concessions, reduce the cost in dollars and euros?
- Recently, due to the growth of the exchange rate, the price of hotel products in foreign destinations has increased by an average of 30%. Some hotels try to somehow compensate for this with special offers or include the price difference in additional hotel services.
Also, an important trend is that payment at the time of booking or prepayment for hotels is becoming increasingly popular among Russian tourists, as travelers are afraid of new currency appreciation and want to fix the last cost of accommodation.
- What are your forecasts for 2015: in terms of the general situation in the tourism market, directions and products?

There are traditional beach destinations that will always be in demand among Russian tourists during their summer holidays - Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, Greece, Spain. Among them, Greece and Spain may sag, due to visa difficulties. Currently, all major tour operators have announced the reduction of their programs, there is a reorientation to the domestic market. I suppose that there will be a great popularity of summer holidays in the Crimea, Sochi - these will be the most popular destinations in the summer of 2015. If we consider independent online booking, there is a demand for Thailand and Spain in these areas, trips to Istanbul are also very popular.

Regarding the leading destinations in the air ticket market, no significant change in the TOP-5 is expected. Most often, customers continue to purchase tickets to St. Petersburg, which will traditionally be followed by three Russian resort cities: Simferopol, Sochi, Krasnodar, and the maximum growth in demand is expected for them. Rounding out the top 5 will be Yekaterinburg.

From the above list, DaTravel.com for 2015 currently receives the most active requests in the directions of Simferopol, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar - each of them accounts for 9.5% of the total number of requests to the agency. Also among the leaders in terms of requests for 2015 are Paris and London: these are bookings with a sales depth of 2-3 months (pre-planned trips), tickets for these destinations are urgently redeemed as currencies become more expensive.

Top 5 destinations - “outsiders” in 2015

Among the outsiders, first of all, these are flights to Europe: Spain, the Czech Republic, Holland, secondary airports in France and Germany. In general, some concentration of demand in Europe around capital European airports is expected, a revision of holidays in European resorts in favor of the “mass destinations” of Turkey and Egypt, and, finally, the main trend is a shift in demand for summer holidays in favor of domestic destinations.

The average cost of one order for 2015 at the moment is 32 thousand rubles, and the average cost of one purchased round-trip ticket is 18 thousand rubles.
The price factor in 2015 for the statistical traveler will be one of the determining factors when choosing a vacation destination. For these reasons, tourists will more often choose the all-inclusive model or countries with low-cost air travel offers, sacrificing the level of service and the exoticism of the holiday.

Traveling to France is always very popular among Russians. It is a charming and unique country with a great history, interesting culture and all sorts of attractions. There is always a huge number of tourists who want to stroll along the Champs Elysees, sunbathe on the Cote d'Azur, go shopping and ride in the most famous ski resorts, climb the Eiffel Tower. Thanks to the well-developed tourist infrastructure, comfortable living conditions and first-class service. Tourists who have visited France at least once remember this all their lives.

Greece

Greece, famous for its huge number of ancient monuments, attracts tourists with its rich history and culture, beautiful natural landscapes, clear and soft Mediterranean waters.
Resting in Greece, tourists get the opportunity to fully enjoy not only all kinds of excursions to various attractions, but also wonderful Greek cuisine, replete with many traditional dishes and culinary delights and, of course, excellent wines.
The most popular destinations in Greece are tours to Athens, the Greek islands in the Mediterranean, to the monuments and buildings of Antiquity and the Middle Ages and Orthodox shrines.

Cyprus

Located in the Mediterranean Sea, the Greek island of Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations both in the entire Mediterranean and in Greece itself. It is with this island that many Greek myths are closely intertwined. According to them, the goddess of beauty and love Aphrodite was born on this picturesque island. The mild climate will give tourists who visited Cyprus an excellent mood, health and a large supply of vivacity. Despite its small size, the island has many sights of both Antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Tourists are provided with first-class hotels, water parks, entertainment centers, picturesque mountain resorts and pristine beaches. Due to its proximity to Russia and the holiday season, which lasts from April to October, Cyprus is very popular with Russians.
Tourists who wish to go on vacation to France, Greece or Cyprus should take into account that for this they will need to obtain a visa. However, do not worry, because this procedure will not take too much time and having done everything in advance, you can fully enjoy your vacation and get unforgettable emotions and feelings.

YEKATERINBURG, 14 December. /TASS/. The largest part of tourist vouchers purchased by residents of the Urals Federal District in 2018 falls on Turkey. Rest in this country was preferred by about 1 million Urals residents, President of the Ural Tourism Association Maxim Puzankov told reporters on Friday.

"If we take the top destinations in 2018, then traditionally Turkey took the first place in terms of the number of tourists who bought package tours. It leads among other destinations by a wide margin. In total, if we take Koltsovo Airport and other points of departure from the Ural region, For the first time, we are approaching the number of 1 million tourists," Puzankov said at a press conference at the Ural Regional Information Center TASS.

The average cost of a tour package to Turkey was 38,000 rubles, which is only 4,000 rubles more than last year, Puzankov noted. "The growth of the cost in rubles is almost equal to the difference in the depreciation of the ruble - it is about 13%. It is impossible to say that prices have increased in Turkey or Turkey," he explained.

Also, Russia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam are among the top five popular destinations among the Urals, the president of the association added. "The cost of tour packages in Russia also did not increase and averaged 18,382 rubles, [while] last year it was 18,275 rubles," Puzankov said.

The expert predicts that Egypt will compete with the current top destinations next year. "We expect the return of Egypt in 2019, based on this, certain adjustments in all areas. Egypt will affect absolutely everything," he is sure.

About air communication between Egypt and Russia

Air traffic between Egypt and Russia was terminated in November 2015 after the crash of the plane of the Russian airline Kogalymavia, flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, over Sinai. On board were 217 tourists and seven crew members, all of whom died. The FSB qualified the incident as a terrorist attack.

In January 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the resumption of regular air traffic to Cairo. The next two months were spent on resolving technical issues. The first flight from Russia to Egypt took off on 11 April. Until now, charter flights with the cities of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada remain closed.
