What ethnic group do Russians belong to? Where did Russians come from?

Russian blood in global politics

Recently, the “Russian theme” has become very relevant, actively used in the political sphere. The press and television are full of speeches on this topic, usually muddy and contradictory. Some say that the Russian people do not exist at all, who consider only Orthodox Christians to be Russians, who include in this concept everyone who speaks Russian, etc. Meanwhile, science has already given absolutely definite answer to this question.

The scientific data below is a terrible secret. Formally, this data is not classified, since it was obtained by American scientists outside the scope of defense research, and even published here and there, but organized around it CONSPIRACY silence is unprecedented. The atomic project at its initial stage cannot even be compared, then some things still leaked into the press, and in this case, nothing at all.

What is this terrible secret, the mention of which is a worldwide taboo?

This the mystery of the origin and historical path of the Russian people.

Why information is hidden, more on that later. First, briefly about the essence of the discovery of American geneticists. There are 46 chromosomes in human DNA, half of which are inherited from the father and half from the mother. Of the 23 chromosomes received from the father, only one - the male Y chromosome - contains a set of nucleotides that is passed on from generation to generation without any changes for thousands of years. Geneticists call this set haplogroup. Every man living today has in his DNA exactly the same haplogroup as his father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and so on for many generations.

Our ancestors migrated from the ethnic home not only to the east, to the Urals, and to the south, to India and Iran, but also to the west, to where European countries are now located. In the western direction, geneticists have complete statistics: in Poland, the owners of the Russian (Aryan) haplogroup R1a1 make up 57% male population, in Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Slovakia – 40% , in Germany, Norway and Sweden – 18% , In Bulgaria - 12% , and in England the least - 3% .

Unfortunately, there is no ethnogenetic information on the European patrimonial aristocracy yet, and therefore it is impossible to determine whether the share of ethnic Russians is evenly distributed across all social strata of the population or, as in India and, presumably, Iran, the Aryans made up the nobility in the lands where they came . The only reliable evidence in favor of the latter version was a by-product of a genetic examination to establish the authenticity of the remains of the family of Nicholas II. The Y chromosomes of the king and heir Alexei turned out to be identical to samples taken from their relatives from the English royal family. This means that at least one royal house of Europe, namely the house of the Germans Hohenzollern, of which the English Windsors are a branch, has Aryan roots.

However, Western Europeans (haplogroup R1b) in any case are our closest relatives, oddly enough, much closer than the Northern Slavs (haplogroup N) and southern Slavs (haplogroup I1b). Our common ancestor with Western Europeans lived about 13 thousand years ago, at the end of the Ice Age, five thousand years before gathering began to develop into crop farming, and hunting into cattle breeding. That is, in the very gray Stone Age antiquity. And the Slavs are even further from us in blood.

The settlement of Russian-Aryans to the east, south and west (there was simply nowhere to go further to the north, and so, according to the Indian Vedas, before coming to India they lived near the Arctic Circle) became a biological prerequisite for the formation of a special language group, Indo-European. These are almost all European languages, some languages of modern Iran and India and, of course, the Russian language and ancient Sanskrit, which are closest to each other for the obvious reason - in time (Sanskrit) and in space (Russian language) they stand next to the original source, the Aryan proto-language , from which all other Indo-European languages grew.

The above are irrefutable natural scientific facts, moreover, obtained by independent American scientists. Disputing them is the same as disagreeing with the results of a blood test in a clinic. They are not disputed. They are simply hushed up. They are hushed up unanimously and stubbornly, they are hushed up, one might say, completely. And there are reasons for this.

The first such reason is quite trivial and boils down to scientific false solidarity. Too many theories, concepts and scientific reputations will have to be refuted if they are revised in the light of the latest discoveries of ethnogenetics.

For example, we will have to rethink everything that is known about the Tatar-Mongol invasion of Rus'. The armed conquest of peoples and lands was always and everywhere accompanied at that time by the mass rape of local women. Traces in the form of Mongolian and Turkic haplogroups should have remained in the blood of the male part of the Russian population. But they are not there! Solid R1a1 and nothing more, the purity of the blood is amazing. This means that the Horde that came to Rus' was not at all what is commonly thought of it; if the Mongols were present there, it was in statistically insignificant numbers, and who was called “Tatars” is generally unclear. Well, which scientist would refute scientific principles supported by mountains of literature and great authorities?!

No one wants to spoil relationships with colleagues and be branded an extremist by destroying established myths. This happens all the time in an academic environment - if the facts don't match the theory, so much the worse for the facts.

The second reason, incomparably more significant, belongs to the sphere of geopolitics. The history of human civilization appears in a new and completely unexpected light, and this cannot but have serious political consequences.

Throughout modern history, the pillars of European scientific and political thought proceeded from the idea of Russians as barbarians who had recently climbed down from the trees, backward by nature and incapable of creative work. And suddenly it turns out that Russians are those same arias, which had a decisive influence on the formation of great civilizations in India, Iran and Europe itself. What exactly Europeans owe Russians to so many in their prosperous lives, starting with the languages they speak. It is no coincidence that in recent history, a third of the most important discoveries and inventions belong to ethnic Russians in Russia itself and abroad. It is no coincidence that the Russian people were able to repel the invasions of the united forces of continental Europe led by Napoleon and then Hitler. And so on.

It is no coincidence that behind all this there is a great historical tradition, thoroughly forgotten over many centuries, but remaining in the collective subconscious of the Russian people and manifesting itself whenever the nation faces new challenges. Manifesting itself with iron inevitability due to the fact that it grew on a material, biological basis in the form Russian blood, which remains unchanged for four and a half millennia.

Western politicians and ideologists have a lot to think about in order to make their policy towards Russia more adequate in the light of the historical circumstances discovered by geneticists. But they don’t want to think or change anything, hence the conspiracy of silence around the Russian-Aryan theme. However, the Lord is with them and with their ostrich politics. What is much more important for us is that ethnogenetics brings a lot of new things to the Russian situation itself.

In this regard, the main thing lies in the very statement of the existence of the Russian people, as a biologically integral and genetically homogeneous entity. The main thesis of the Russophobic propaganda of the Bolsheviks and current liberals is precisely the denial of this fact. The scientific community is dominated by the idea formulated Lev Gumilev in his theory of ethnogenesis: “from a mixture of Alans, Ugrians, Slavs and Turks, the Great Russian people developed”. “National Leader” repeats the common saying “scratch a Russian and you will find a Tatar.” And so on.

Why do the enemies of the Russian nation need this?

The answer is obvious. If the Russian people as such do not exist, but some kind of amorphous “mixture” exists, then anyone can control this “mixture” - be it Germans, be it African pygmies, or even Martians. The denial of the biological existence of the Russian people is ideological justification for the dominance of the non-Russian “elite” in Russia, formerly Soviet, now liberal.

But then the Americans with their genetics intervene, and it turns out that there is no “mixture”, that the Russian people have existed unchanged for four and a half thousand years, that Alans and Turks and many others also live in Russia, but these are separate, distinctive peoples and etc. And the question immediately arises: why then are Russia not ruled by Russians for almost a century? Illogical and wrong Russians should be ruled by Russians.

The Czech Jan Hus, a professor at the University of Prague, argued in a similar way six hundred years ago: “...Czechs in the Kingdom of Bohemia, by law and by the dictates of nature, should be first in positions, just like the French in France and the Germans in their lands”. This statement of his was considered politically incorrect, intolerant, inciting ethnic hatred, and the professor was burned at the stake.

Now morals have softened, professors are not burned, but so that people are not tempted to succumb to Hussite logic, in Russia non-Russian authorities simply “cancelled” the Russian people– mixture, they say. And everything would have been fine, but the Americans jumped out from somewhere with their analyzes and ruined the whole thing. There is nothing to cover them with, all that remains is to hush up the scientific results, which is done to the hoarse sounds of an old and hackneyed Russophobic propaganda record.

The collapse of the myth about the Russian people as an ethnic “mixture” automatically destroys another myth - the myth about the “multinationality” of Russia. Until now, they have tried to present the ethno-demographic structure of our country as a vinaigrette from a Russian “mixture” of who knows what, and many indigenous peoples and newcomer diasporas. With such a structure, all its components are approximately equal in size, so Russia is supposedly “multinational.”

But genetic studies provide a completely different picture. If you believe the Americans (and there is no reason not to believe them, they are authoritative scientists, their reputation trembles, and they have no reason to lie in such a pro-Russian way), then it turns out that 70% of the total male population of Russia are purebred Russians. According to the data of the penultimate census (the results of the latter are not yet known), they consider themselves Russians 80% respondents, that is, 10% more, are Russified representatives of other nations (precisely among these 10% , if you “scratch”, you will find non-Russian roots). AND 20% accounts for the remaining 170-odd peoples, nationalities and tribes living on the territory of the Russian Federation. In summary, Russia is a mono-ethnic country, albeit multi-ethnic, with an overwhelming demographic majority of natural Russians. This is where Jan Hus' logic comes into play.

Next, about backwardness. The clergy thoroughly contributed to this myth - they say that before the baptism of Rus', people lived in complete savagery. Wow, wild! They mastered half the world, built great civilizations, taught the aborigines their language, and all this long before the Nativity of Christ... It doesn’t fit, no way The real story does not fit with its church version. There is something primordial, natural in the Russian people that cannot be reduced to religious life.

Of course, biology and the social sphere cannot be equated. There are undoubtedly points of contact between them, but how one passes into the other, how the material becomes ideal, is unknown to science. In any case, it is obvious that under the same conditions different peoples have different patterns of life activity.

In the northeast of Europe, in addition to the Russians, many peoples lived and now live. But none of them created anything even remotely similar to great Russian civilization. The same applies to other places of civilizational activity of the Russian-Aryans in ancient times. Natural conditions are different everywhere, and the ethnic environment is different, therefore the civilizations built by our ancestors are not the same, but there is something common to all of them - they are great on the historical scale of values and far exceed the achievements of their neighbors.

The father of dialectics, the ancient Greek Heraclitus, is known as the author of the saying “everything flows, everything changes.” Less well known is the continuation of this phrase: "except the human soul". While a person is alive, his soul remains unchanged (what happens to it in the afterlife is not for us to judge). The same is true for a more complex form of organization of living matter than a person - for a people. The people's soul is unchanged as long as the people's body is alive. The Russian folk body is marked by nature with a special sequence of nucleotides in the DNA that controls this body. This means that as long as there are people with the haplogroup on earth R1a1 in the Y chromosome, their people retain their souls unchanged.

Language evolves, culture develops, religious beliefs change, and Russian soul remains the same as all four and a half millennia of the existence of the people in its current genetic form. And together, the body and soul, constituting a single biosocial entity under the name “Russian people,” have a natural ability for great achievements on a civilizational scale. The Russian people have demonstrated this many times in the past; this potential remains in the present and will always exist as long as the people live.

The Slavs are one of the indigenous inhabitants of Eastern Europe, but they are divided into three large groups: eastern, western and southern, each of these communities has similar cultural and linguistic features.

And the Russian people - part of this large community - came from along with Ukrainians and Belarusians. So why were the Russians called Russians, how and under what conditions did this happen? We will try to find answers to these questions in this article.

Primary ethnogenesis

So, let’s take a journey into the depths of history, or rather, at the moment when this IV-III millennium BC begins to take shape.

It was then that the ethnic division of European peoples occurred. The Slavic mass stands out from the general environment. It was also not homogeneous, despite the similarity of languages; otherwise, the Slavic peoples are quite different, this even applies to the anthropological type.

This is not surprising, since they mixed with different tribes, this result was obtained with a common origin.

Initially, the Slavs and their language occupied a very limited territory. According to scientists, it was localized in the area of the middle reaches of the Danube, only later did the Slavs settle in the areas of modern Poland and Ukraine. Belarus and southern Russia.

Range expansion

The further expansion of the Slavs gives us the answer to the origin. In the 4th-3rd centuries BC, the Slavic masses move towards central Europe and occupy the Oder and Elbe basins.

At this stage it is still impossible to talk about any clear demarcation within the Slavic population. The greatest changes in ethnic and territorial demarcation were brought about by the Hun invasion. Already by the fifth century AD, the Slavs appeared in the forest-steppes of modern Ukraine and further south in the Don region.

Here they successfully assimilate the few Iranian tribes and establish settlements, one of which becomes Kyiv. However, numerous toponyms and hydronyms remain from the former owners of the lands, which led to the conclusion that the Slavs appeared in these places around the above period.

At this moment, there was a rapid growth of the Slavic population, which led to the emergence of a large intertribal association - the Anta Union, and it was from its midst that the Russians emerged. The history of the origin of this people is closely connected with the first prototype of the state.

The first mentions of Russians

From the fifth to the eighth centuries there was a continuous struggle between the Eastern Slavs and nomadic tribes, however, despite the enmity, these peoples in the future will be forced to coexist.

By this period, the Slavs had formed 15 large inter-tribal unions, the most developed of which were the Polyans and Slavs who lived in the area of Lake Ilmen. The strengthening of the Slavs led to the fact that they appeared in the possessions of Byzantium, and it was from there that the first information about the Russians and Dews came.

That is why the Russians were called Russians, this is a derivative of the ethnonym that the Byzantines and other peoples surrounding them gave them. There were other names that were similar in transcription - Rusyns, Rus.

During this chronological period, there was an active process of formation of statehood, moreover, there were two centers of this process - one in Kyiv, the other in Novgorod. But both bore the same name - Rus'.

Why were Russians called Russians?

So why did the ethnonym “Russians” appear both in the Dnieper region and in the north-west? After the great migration of peoples, the Slavs occupied vast areas of Central and Eastern Europe.

Among these numerous tribes there are the names Russ, Rusyns, Rutens, Rugs. Suffice it to recall that Rusyn has survived to this day. But why this particular word?

The answer is very simple, in the language of the Slavs the word “blond” meant fair-haired or simply fair, and the Slavs looked exactly like that according to their anthropological type. A group of Slavs who originally lived on the Danube brought this name when moving to the banks of the Dnieper.

This is where the terminology and origin of “Russian” originate; the Russians, over time, turn into Russians. This part of the Eastern Slavs settles in the area of modern Kyiv and adjacent territories. And they brought this name here, and since they established themselves here, the ethnonym became established; over time it only changed a little.

The emergence of Russian statehood

Another part of the Russians occupied lands along the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, here they pushed the Germans and Balts to the west, and they themselves gradually moved to the north-west, this group of Eastern Slavs already had princes and a squad.

And she was practically one step away from creating a state. Although there is a version about the Northern European origin of the term “Rus” and it is connected with the Norman theory, according to which the Varangians brought statehood to the Slavs, this term denoted the inhabitants of Scandinavia, but there is no evidence for this.

The Baltic Slavs moved to the area of Lake Ilmen, and from there to the east. Therefore, by the ninth century, two Slavic centers bear the name Rus, they are destined to become rivals in the struggle for dominance, this is what gives the new people their origin. Russian man is a concept that originally denoted all the Eastern Slavs who occupied the territories of modern Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

The history of the Russian people at its very beginning

As mentioned above, intense rivalry arose between Kiev and Novgorod at the end of the ninth century. The reason for this was the acceleration of socio-economic development and the need to create a unified state.

The northerners gained the upper hand in this battle. In 882, the Novgorod prince Oleg gathered a large army and went on a campaign against Kyiv, but he was unable to take the city by force. Then he resorted to cunning and passed off his boats as a merchant caravan. Taking advantage of the effect of surprise, he killed the Kyiv princes and took the Kiev throne, declaring himself the Grand Duke.

This is how the ancient Russian state appears with a single supreme ruler, taxes, squad and judicial system. And Oleg becomes the founder of those who ruled in Rus'-Russia until the 16th century.

It was then that the history of our country and its largest people begins. The fact is that the Russians, the history of the origin of this people, are inextricably linked with the Ukrainians and Belarusians, who are their closest ethnic relatives. And only in the post-Mongol period did the fragmentation of a single base become apparent, as a result of which new ethnonyms (Ukrainians and Belarusians) appeared, characterizing the new state of affairs. Now it’s clear why the Russians were called Russians.

How good it is to be Russian

I read a naive children’s post here about the reasons to love Russians, and I thought: Why do I love my good people? Even a Moldovan can find a hundred reasons why Moldovans are the best people on Earth, which means Russians must have the same reasons. For what Do we Russians love us Russians? (besides the charming modesty contained in this question).

For a stunning mixture of pride and soul-searching. A Russian can be stripped to the skin, beaten, smeared in mud - and still he will look at the offenders with a poorly concealed pity of superiority. The confidence of our people in their greatness and chosenness does not depend in any way on external circumstances; the Russians look down on all other peoples of the world, including the ruling Americans.

This consciousness of the Atlanteans who hold the world, the consciousness of the sun, around which all the other people-planets revolve, led both to our greatest triumphs and to defeats from self-indulgence. Defeats, in turn, led to self-flagellation, to repentance, earnest, true, Russian - and all also mixed with monstrous pride, with the secret awareness that yes, we certainly sinned, but no one sinned as deeply and terribly as we sinned. he can no longer sin in the world. Even wallowing at his feet, even smearing snow on his face with tears, a Russian will be sure that he has the purest tears in the world and the most sincere wallowing at his feet.

Proud, unshakable self-confidence in our own superiority is our greatest weakness, because the proud are easily deceived, and our greatest force, because the most terrible defeats, failures, disasters do not make the slightest impression on the Russian. Where other people are scuttling in horror and dying of depression, the imperturbable Russians are just beginning to get the hang of it. "Blitzkrieg? Has the cadre army been destroyed? Have you already seen scouts near Moscow? Well, that's it... This jam is so delicious, what is it made from? Raspberry? Good jam... get my overcoat there.”

For a burning, furious desire that has not subsided for centuries reach the limit and go beyond the limit. Cry - so that your eyes cry out. To develop Siberia so that it ends in Alaska. Build airplanes so that they go all the way to space. Engage in totalitarianism so that even the fascists close their eyes in horror. To fight so that the earth melts.

The Russian not only harnesses for a long time and rides quickly, but rushes until he breaks through the very line of the horizon, in everything from inner spiritual life, to revolutionary activity, to scientific and technical research. Only with the psychology of someone always striving beyond the limit was it possible to build such a huge country as ours, to create such a gloomy and majestic literature as ours, to amaze the world with unimaginable horrors and unimaginable heroisms like ours. A Russian is capable of manifestations of the highest, rarest feelings - and in the same way he is capable of manifestations of extreme, terrifying baseness. Sometimes - at the same time. Outbursts of extreme Russian character sometimes make other nations freeze in horror or awe.

For dexterous, tenacious, pirate-like acumen, growing from the awareness of one’s own uniqueness and superiority. A typical Russian situation: take an English nuclear bomb, take German missiles, and then for 50 years now threaten the world with “Our, Russian nuclear weapons!”, without feeling the slightest trick or the slightest embarrassment. If a Russian finds someone else’s thing, idea, development convenient for himself, then he immediately begins to use it as if he had just come up with it himself. The Russian has no embarrassment, hesitation, or modesty; the Russian feels like a master whose whole world is his workshop, and who can take on board any instrument he likes and make something of his own out of it.

Like the word “general’s wife”, in which you can hear a foreign root, but whose suffix is luxuriously insolent with its shameless Russianness. I liked the general, took the general, made him a girlfriend as a general. It's in Russian! Because of this, all kinds of peoples, when faced with Russians, are quietly freaked out by how the Russians format reality for themselves, using the surrounding space as a toolkit. “Your city is good, Kazan. We'll just burn it a little and move it here. It's more beautiful this way. Is it true. And stop running and screaming, Tatars, we’re doing our best for you fools,”- this is the Russian type of thinking.

For the complete absence of a culture of hypocrisy. There is a hypocrite - with a cold, impenetrable face, with refined movements, with a slight smile, behind which both extreme benevolence and extreme hatred can be hidden. Eat Asiatic a type of hypocrite - stuffy and obsequious, dripping with praise, smiling so hard that his mouth almost tears - and at the same time scolding you three levels up as soon as the door closes. A there is no Russian type of hypocrite.

The Russian perceives the routine American smile as an insult, as a mockery, as a mockery, as a declaration of war. Sincerity destroys Russians in a world of total, exquisite hypocrisy, but it also serves as an unmistakable identification mark by which you can instantly recognize one of your own in a crowd of strangers. And if for other peoples sincerity is a sign of the highest disposition towards you, then for a Russian sincerity is zero level, and disposition begins with "soulfulness", which sometimes takes forms unthinkable for a foreigner. If, brother, the Russians decided to show you sincerity, sit down and write a will, just in case.

The most complete expression of national character.

For the inability to truly be offended, growing out of the same absolutely impenetrable feeling of exclusivity. Russians very often lose in national conflicts because they do not perceive them as conflicts and do not see attacks and even direct attacks by other peoples as a threat.

“They’re something like dogs, why be offended by dogs?”

The plot of revenge is uncharacteristic for Russian culture, the Russian does not understand the long, exhausting, withering Anglo-Saxon intrigue, and almost the next day he climbs to hug the offender, which is capable of giving the offender a heart attack. Growing from the inability to be offended by a specific Russian kindness, - that is, insensitivity to hints, shouts, injections, blows and the dying scream of the unfortunate victim trying to get rid of the Russian - provided our people with the very colonization dynamics unprecedented in history. “Strangling in an embrace” is a typically Russian situation that confuses other peoples and tribes with a more subtle and touchy mental organization.

For beauty. The Russian phenotype is an elegant mixture of northern Nordic severity, too rocky, too sharp, too square in its pure Scandinavian type, and charming Slavic softness, too blurred and too submissive in other Slavic peoples. Russians are equally alien to both the northern angular concreteness and the southern resort jelly; they combine these two elements in the most perfect and pleasing to the eye way.

ABOUT Russian beauty Enough words have been said over the past centuries, but what I like most about classical Russian types is the calm strength that comes from them, not the hysterical southern fussy talkativeness, not the comical northern rectangular arrogance, but a soft and at the same time terrible strength, power of the people, capable of bending anyone into a ram's horn, is easily read in calm Russian glances.

For the beauty and richness of language, capable of expressing the finest, barely perceptible shades of feelings, and at the same time rising in its sound either to a gentle, lively, playful, almost Italian tint, or descending to a threatening hiss of terrible primitive hissing. It's good to talk about love in Italian - but how to curse an enemy in Italian? It's great to curse your enemies in German, but how to confess your love in German? In English you can do both, but in a trimmed, ugly, basic, childish configuration. AND only Russian gives to its owner full language palette, all the colors of language. And the finest brushes and feathers to paint the finest elements with these paints.

For an incredible historical destiny. What is Jewish historical destiny? “We offended a mouse and peed in a hole.” What is American historical destiny? “The redneck went to the fair.” What is German historical destiny? "The Shopkeeper and World Domination." What is Russian historical destiny? Epic. Incredible highs. An unthinkable fall. Complete nonentity. And complete domination over the world at arm's length.

When I started studying drama, I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that Russian history seemed to be written by a professional playwright, who deftly guessed at what moment the viewer begins to get bored with continuous victories, victories, victories, and where he needs to substitute a leg, and where, on the contrary , rise from rags to greatness. Due to habit, the Russian does not even see how ideal this dramatic contrast is, how perfect this combination is: the gloomy repressions of the 37th and the stunning, impossible Stalingrad victory of the 43rd. Or the Brusilov breakthrough of 1916 and complete destruction, that’s the literal collapse of the state by mid-1917. Russians, out of habit, do not even understand all the enchanting, dizzying beauty of this roller coaster of Russian history, from which any other people would have gone crazy long ago.

We are in a dark period of history right now., but this is temporary, because a Russian by nature is a cheerful, impudent person who cannot be sad and worried for a long time. They cried, repented, released all the negative emotions from themselves - and went to flex their fists, well, so that they would have something to repent of next time. Russian self-confidence, rage, over-indulgence, frightening sincerity and the inability to take offense in time show only one thing - it is impossible to come to an agreement with a Russian who has moved from the depressed to the active phase, it is impossible to stop him, insult him, discourage him, or reassure him.

Just raise your hands and run away, because you can’t even kill the largest white nation in the world. Now my good people are depressed, but, as the winter rallies showed, the drama of Russian history is taking its toll and the nation is beginning to awaken, move into active, arrogant, “Yes, I love you, I want the best for you, don’t you dare turn away, bitch!” state. After which all non-Russian peoples will have to turn on the mode “Run away in all directions, the Russians wanted the best for us”.

Are Russians the greatest people on Earth? Yes! Russian impudent persistence will sooner or later crush everything and everyone, even the Chinese. There are smarter peoples, there are smarter peoples, there are more organized peoples, there are richer peoples, there are more numerous peoples, but there are no people more persistent than the Russians. The Russians, having accelerated, broke everything: armies, peoples, countries, continents, outer space, and sooner or later the Russians will break the world. And besides, every true Russian knows that the world belongs to him by right - all that remains is to simply take this world. And sooner or later the Russian world will take it for itself.

Russians are an unusually numerous people, formed from the tribes of the Eastern Slavs. Today, most Russians live on the territory of the Russian Federation (more than eighty percent of its population). Where did the Russian nation come from?

Russians descended from the Indo-European group of peoples. If you believe archaeological data, the Slavs appeared in the first millennium BC. They are the direct ancestors of the Russians and some other peoples. Slavic tribes, or rather East Slavic tribes, gradually settled and occupied the area of modern Russia.

The Eastern Slavs are even called “Russian Slavs”. Each tribe had its own name depending on the area where they were located. But later they all united (in the twelfth century), and then gave rise to the Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians (this happened in the seventeenth century).

After the tribes united, the Old Russian nation was formed. The main groups of Eastern Slavs from which the Russians originated:

  • Krivichi.
  • Slovenia.
  • Vyatichi.
  • Northerners.

It is also necessary to note the Finno-Ugric tribes: Merya, Meshchera, Muroma and others. But the process of uniting the tribes was disrupted due to the invasion of the Mongols. Gradually, the Cossacks, Belarusians, and Ukrainians began to separate themselves. The Russian state was formed in the fifteenth century, from where the Russian people emerged.

Where the Russian people came from can be found out from ancient literary sources: “The Tale of Bygone Years”, “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign”, “Veles’s Book”.

Where did the word “Russian” come from?

It is not difficult to guess that the name of the people came from the word Rus', that is, from the state in which they lived. In turn, the origin of the word Rus is still controversial. There are many versions on this matter, which you can read about in the article “Theories of the origin of the name Rus”.

Initially, the word “Russian” was not used, they said Russian people. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the name “Russians” came, then “Great Russians”. But at the same time, the word “Russians” appeared here and there.

Where did the Russian land come from?

The emergence of Rus' and the state occurred as a result of the settlement of lands by Slavic tribes. Initially, these were Kyiv, Novgorod and the adjacent territories, the banks of the Dnieper and Dniester rivers. The Russian land was then called the Old Russian State, or Kievan Rus. Independent Russian principalities gradually formed (starting from the twelfth century). Then, in the middle of the sixteenth century, the Russian land was called the Russian kingdom. Since the eighteenth century - the Russian Empire.

Where did the Russian language come from?

Russian is an East Slavic language. It is very widespread in the world, and also occupies the lion's share among other Slavic languages in terms of frequency. Today, Russian is the official language in Russia. In addition, it is such in some other countries that have several languages.
