Russian soldiers Jane: girls who decided to serve in the Russian army. Military service under contract for women - conditions, salaries

MOSCOW, March 8 – RIA Novosti. Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergei Shoigu, congratulating female military personnel, wives and mothers of military personnel on March 8, said that currently about 44.5 thousand women serve in the Russian Armed Forces, and more than 1.3 thousand girls are studying in educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense -cadets, about 315 thousand women work in civilian positions in the defense department.

Shoigu called this personnel a charming army.

In service of your own free will

The head of the Russian military department clarified that out of almost 44.5 thousand women with military ranks, about four thousand are officers, 7.5 thousand are warrant officers and midshipmen. To these he added 1.3 thousand female cadets, 93% of whom are studying in higher education programs, that is, preparing to join the officer corps. Shoigu noted that about 315 thousand women work in positions in the federal state civil service, as well as as employees of military units and organizations.

According to him, “this entire charming army copes with its duties perfectly”: last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin encouraged 112 women, and 10 thousand 78 representatives of an excellent part of the army and navy personnel received medals from the Ministry of Defense, including for exemplary performance of special tasks during the operation against international terrorists in Syria.

Ladies in uniform, officially called female military personnel, perform military duty voluntarily - on a contract basis - in more than 150 specialties in all branches and branches of the Russian Armed Forces. Conscript military service for them, as, for example, in the Israeli Defense Forces, is not provided for by Russian law.

Women occupy a significant number of military positions in military educational institutions, communications units, medical, clothing, and food services of the Russian Armed Forces.

To date, there are 17 women in the country who have been awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. Among them are pilots, intelligence officers, athletes, astronauts...

History of women's shoulder straps

The military regulations of 1716 allowed Russian women to officially be present in the army - as civilian employees in hospitals. The first female officers are believed to have appeared in the Russian Imperial Army during the Patriotic War of 1812. The most famous of them is headquarters captain Nadezhda Durova, whom contemporaries called the cavalry maiden. Then the commander of the women's infantry shock battalion of death, created in 1917, Lieutenant Maria Bochkareva, became famous in Russia.

During the Great Patriotic War, about half a million Soviet women mobilized and voluntarily joined the Red Army and Navy. Along with them, the Great Victory was brought closer by hundreds of thousands of partisans, underground workers, workers of hospitals and military factories.

During these years, a central women's sniper school and a separate women's reserve rifle regiment were formed; In the active army, a separate women's volunteer rifle brigade, the 46th Guards Night Bomber, the 125th Guards Bomber, the 586th Air Defense Fighter Regiment, and a separate women's company of sailors fought.

During the Great Patriotic War, 90 women became Heroes of the Soviet Union. More than half of them were posthumous. The first to receive this title in 1941 after her death was Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, a reconnaissance saboteur at the headquarters of the Western Front.

In peacetime, the cosmonauts Major General of Aviation Valentina Tereshkova and Colonel Svetlana Savitskaya (twice) were awarded the Golden Star and the Order of Lenin. A total of 95 women became Heroes of the Soviet Union, 16 - Heroes of Russia.

In vests of different shades

In the modern Russian Armed Forces there are virtually no women commanders of combat units and units. But in the military universities of the Navy, Aerospace Forces, and Airborne Forces of Russia today there are girls who are determined to command ocean and air ships in the near future, to lead landings - in a word, to be leaders on land, at sea, in the air, space and information sphere.

By the way, such diversified, competent, handsome officers are represented today, in particular, in the information support bodies of the RF Armed Forces. One of them is the chief expert of the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant Colonel Irina Kruglova.

Her military biography is closely connected with the Russian Airborne Forces. In addition to competently organizing information work, she can masterfully jump with a parachute, conduct sniper fire from almost all types of small arms and, if necessary, command “blue berets” in a combat situation. Paratrooper Kruglova at one time taught combat work to airborne snipers, then prepared students of the cadet corps for future officer service. Many men who wear epaulets with dignity are grateful to her for this science.

Today, about one and a half thousand women serve in the Russian Airborne Forces, among whom more than fifty are officers. Many of them took part in hostilities and have state awards. In the Winged Infantry, female military personnel are represented mainly in communications units and medical services.

An example of a doctor, figuratively speaking, in an airborne vest is Colonel of the Medical Service Elena Shpak, the daughter of the former commander of the Russian Airborne Forces, Colonel General Georgy Shpak. She began her military service as commander of a medical platoon of the parachute regiment of the Tula Guards Airborne Division. Then, when she was a senior resident in the trauma department of the Ryazan garrison hospital, she treated those wounded in battles in the North Caucasus. Then her service continued at the Department of Emergency Conditions and Oncology of the Moscow branch of the Military Medical Academy.

In the Syrian war

Women wearing naval uniforms serve, among other things, as psychologists. Their work is most in demand where there is war. Thus, being the head of the psychological work center of the Black Sea Fleet, captain of the third rank Svetlana Kharitonova repeatedly visited Syrian business trips. After that, she developed methods for organizing work in combat conditions.

During the war in Syria, Russian women in uniform also had to perform military duty, just like men. Many of them were awarded state awards, such as the senior nurse of the infectious diseases department of the 35th separate airmobile medical detachment of the Russian Airborne Forces, senior sergeant Tatyana Solovyova. For exemplary performance of professional duties, she was awarded the Suvorov Medal.

Army for girls in Russia is not as inaccessible as it might seem at first glance. However, only those women who meet certain requirements and successfully pass the pre-selection are recruited.

Women's service in the army: who can go to serve? Are married women accepted into the army?

Girls in Russia are not subject to compulsory conscription for military service. Therefore, to the question, how can a girl get into the army, there is only one answer: voluntarily by concluding a service contract. The Ministry of Defense has established a list of military positions for which female contract workers can be hired.

A woman between the ages of 18 and 40 with at least secondary education (a number of positions require vocational or higher education) can join the contract service. In addition, she must undergo a health check, psychological testing and pass physical fitness standards.

A contract with a woman cannot be concluded if:

  • she is under 18 years of age or over 40;
  • a criminal case is underway against her or a conviction has already been made;
  • she has a criminal record;
  • the woman had previously served a sentence in a colony (even if the criminal record had already been expunged).

But having a husband and children is not an obstacle to serving. If a woman believes that joining the service will not negatively affect family relationships, she can join the army.

A woman enlists in the Russian army. Where to begin?

A girl who decides to serve under a contract must submit an application to the military registration and enlistment office at her place of residence or directly to the military unit. Along with the application, you will need to submit a certain package of documents:

Copies of documents must be properly certified.

Checking a woman's readiness for military service

After the application for contract service is accepted by the military registration and enlistment office for consideration, the girl is asked to undergo certain examinations and tests. Only upon successful completion can she be accepted into contract service.

Such checks include:

  1. Medical examination. Based on its results, the degree of suitability for service in the armed forces is determined. A girl can be accepted into contract service if, based on the results of a medical examination, she is assigned category “A” (fit for service) or “B” (fit with minor restrictions).
  2. Testing psychological qualities. During this test, such qualities and personality characteristics are tested as: intellectual level, speed of thinking, ability to communicate, psychological maturity, type of temperament, balance, etc. Based on the results of the examination, one of 4 categories of psychological suitability is assigned. Girls assigned to the first or second category are accepted for contract service. If there are no other candidates for a specific military position, then a citizen with the third category can be accepted.
  3. Determination of physical fitness level. To test physical readiness for military service, a woman is asked to pass 3 standards: speed, strength and endurance. Such standards are approved by the Ministry of Defense. If a girl fails to complete at least 1 of 3 exercises, she will not be accepted for contract service.

Military service in Russia has again become prestigious. The level of salaries is such that girls strive to get into the service. How can a girl join the army?

On the one hand, this is not as inaccessible as it might seem, on the other hand, not everyone will be able to get into the service; there is a strict preliminary selection that must be passed. Let's consider requirements for girls to join the army Russia.

Which girls can serve in the army and are married women recruited?

As you know, in Russia there is an annual conscription for military service. It is also known that only male conscripts qualify for this call. The call for girls is not valid. However, there is still a way for girls to get into the service: this is contract service. Women contract workers can be recruited to serve in a limited number of military positions, which is established by order of the Ministry of Defense.

Basic Rules for recruitment to contract service for females: The woman must be at least 18 and not over 40 years old and have at least a high school education. At a minimum, because some positions require special or even higher education.

And, of course, a contract soldier, even if she is a woman, must pass physical training standards, successfully pass psychological testing and a medical commission. That's why the main reasons for refusal to conclude a contract for military service with a woman such:

  1. The girl is under the age of 18 or over 40;
  2. She has a criminal record, is under criminal proceedings or has already been convicted;
  3. The woman was serving her sentence in a colony.

These are the only obstacles to concluding a contract for military service. The presence of a woman's husband and children cannot serve as an obstacle to service.

What documents should a girl provide to enroll in military service?

If you are determined to serve, an application is submitted to the military registration and enlistment office at your place of residence. You can also submit an application directly to the military unit you are interested in. The following documents are attached to the application:

  • Passport;
  • A copy of your birth certificate;
  • on a regular A4 sheet by hand;
  • Application form on a special form;
  • A copy of the work record;
  • Extract from the house register;
  • Copies of marriage certificate and copies of children's birth certificates;
  • Photo 3 x 4;
  • Photo frontal 9 X 12;
  • Copies of education documents;
  • or study.

Copies of all documents must be notarized unless you provide original documents for verification.

What tests does a girl need to pass to serve in the Russian army?

Aptitude tests are offered only if the application is accepted for consideration by the military commissar.

Only a woman who has successfully passed all checks can be accepted. Among them we include:

1. Medical commission. Successful completion of the medical examination guarantees the girl's suitability for military service. A girl who, based on the results of an examination, has shown category “A” (fully fit for service) or “B” (fit for service with minor restrictions) is recognized as fit for service in the armed forces under a contract.

2. Psychological test. During testing, the IQ, sociability and ability to communicate positively, speed of reaction and thinking, type of temperament, psychological maturity and balance of personality are determined.

As a result of the psychology test, one of four categories of the girl’s psychological suitability is determined. At the same time, only the first two categories are fit for service in the Armed Forces. The third category can be accepted only in case of exclusion, in the absence of applicants for this position for a long time.

3. Physical fitness test. During the test, 3 standards approved by the Ministry of Defense are passed: strength, speed and endurance.

This is a serious test; if at least one standard out of three is not passed, the applicant cannot enter the contract service.

In Russia, it has developed that defending the Motherland is a man’s duty. Women are traditionally entrusted with responsibilities related to family and raising children. Probably, deputy Moskalkova, who in 2012 intended to prepare a law on the service of girls in the army, was guided by these ideas. She proposed conscripting for military service those girls who would not have children before the age of 23. The initiative did not receive support.

However, this does not mean that the path to the army is closed for girls. Modern women have achieved the highest success in equalizing gender rights and, in addition to their traditional responsibilities, do an excellent job with “male” affairs - they manage not only their own businesses and large state-owned companies, but also occupy key political positions. Women also serve in the army, but only on a contract basis.

There are not as few women in the ranks of the Russian troops as it might seem - only about 60 thousand representatives of the fair sex serve in the army - in the ground and missile forces, as well as in the Air Force. The medical units are in need of a large number of female soldiers. The girls handle logistics, do paperwork, and establish communications. Girls are also brought in for combat duty. They also participate in exercises. The law prohibits the use of girls in the army for garrison and guard service.

How can a girl get into the army?

Girls are accepted into contract service in almost the same way as men. The candidate must write an application and attach the following documents to it:
identification
about education
about marital status and presence of children (children are not an obstacle to service)
work book
autobiorgaphy

There are significantly fewer positions for girls in the army than for men, so you can ask the commissar in advance about the availability of places. If there is a vacancy and the candidacy is approved, then the next step will be to undergo a medical examination, which will determine whether the girl’s health and mental state allow her to serve in the army. If everything is in order, she will be asked to sign a contract.

Army guarantees

The law on military service gives girls the same rights as in civilian life - leave every year, leave during pregnancy and raising a child up to three years of age. In addition, military women are given housing where they live for the first five years of service. Then you can get an apartment in the general order.

Girls from 20 to 40 years old can serve under contract. The term of service can be three, five or ten years, but the contract can be terminated at any time at will.

What documents are required

When submitting an application to the military commissariat, in addition to your passport, you need to attach several more documents:

  • a questionnaire filled out in accordance with the established form;
  • identification documents of family members living with the applicant;
  • diploma of educational level;
  • written autobiography;
  • work book to determine length of service and skills;
  • an extract from the house register or a certificate from the house management;
  • a document defining the woman’s marital status (a copy of the marriage registration certificate or the birth certificate of children);
  • photos 3x4 and 9x12;
  • review from your place of study or work.

At the military registration and enlistment office, the documents are checked against the list of required documents and with the application form for any discrepancies, which the applicant will be asked to correct. A package of documents and a completed application form can be sent electronically. Documents must be scanned in color.

Surveys and inspections

After submitting an application and a package of required documents, the girl is asked to undergo examination and tests to determine whether she meets the established criteria for joining the army. The first to undergo a medical examination to determine suitability for service in the Armed Forces. The contract is concluded with women who are assigned category A, meaning full fitness for service, and category B, which has minor restrictions. Then you need to pass a psychological test that reveals the qualities and characteristics of an individual personality. Here they pay attention to such characteristics as type of temperament, psychological maturity, ability to find contact with people, level of intelligence and speed of thinking.

The survey divides potential military personnel into 4 categories, of which only the first two can enter active service. There are separate military positions for which candidates of the third category are also accepted. The most difficult test is to confirm a good level of athletic training. The physical development of candidates for military service is checked based on the results of passing three standards:

  • rapidity;
  • force;
  • endurance.

The contract is not concluded even if one standard is not met.

Under what conditions do women serve?

Of course, there are fewer military positions for women, so when applying, it is better to immediately inquire what vacancies are available. The stereotype that the army is not for women has already been destroyed. The Ministry of Defense confirms with statistics that in 2015, 3,000 contracts were concluded with female officers. The total number of such military personnel reaches 50,000. Only a thousand of them serve in low positions, while the rest occupy positions as financial or medical specialists. The medical field is especially in need of female soldiers. Communication, office work and ensuring the work of the rear also falls on the fragile shoulders of women. The law prohibits a girl from performing guard or garrison duty.

Monetary allowance, in other words, the salary of military personnel, is determined by law. For female contract workers, there is also an additional law on the amount of salary for a contract concluded for service. For the level of qualifications, length of service, specific conditions of service, work with secret documents, risks to health and life, and a high level of physical fitness, women receive allowances.

Girls in the service have the same rights as in regular work not related to military affairs. According to the law on service in the armed forces, rights to annual leave, a break in service during pregnancy, and maternity leave are granted. Also, during the first five years of service, a female employee lives in an apartment provided by the state. After this period, housing can be obtained on a general basis. In 2015-2016, contract workers are provided with benefits for free treatment at the place of duty, free train travel to their vacation destination and an earlier long-service pension.

The physical superiority of men is obvious, but women compensate for this due to their training, level of weapon proficiency, endurance and resistance to stressful situations. Therefore, it is quite natural for women to conquer the army profession.

Monetary allowance

Military personnel's allowance (salary), undergoing military service under a contract, consists of a monthly salary in accordance with the assigned military rank and a monthly salary in accordance with the military position held and additional cash payments:

  • monthly bonus for length of service (from 10% to 40% of the salary);
  • monthly bonus for class qualifications (from 5% to 30% of the salary for a military position);
  • monthly bonus for working with information constituting state secrets (up to 65% of the salary for a military position);
  • monthly bonus for special conditions of military service (up to 100% of the salary for a military position);
  • monthly bonus for performing tasks directly related to the risk to life and health in peacetime, as well as for participating in exercises, ship voyages, practicing combat and combat training tasks in field conditions outside permanent deployment points of a military unit (up to 100% of salary according to military position);
  • monthly bonus for special achievements in service (up to 100% of the salary for a military position);
  • bonus for conscientious and effective performance of official duties (up to three salaries per year);
  • annual financial assistance (at least one monthly salary);
  • monthly bonuses for the qualifying level of physical training of military personnel and knowledge of foreign languages.

The law also establishes the payment of a lifting allowance when moving to a new duty station in the amount of one salary per serviceman and 25% of it for each family member.

Compensation for sublease housing is paid according to the standards established by the legislation of the Russian Federation (for Moscow and the Moscow region - 15,000 rubles). An accurate calculation is made using housing rental calculator.
Upon dismissal from military service, military personnel are paid a one-time benefit: with a total length of service of less than 20 years - 2 salaries, and with 20 years or more - 7 salaries.

I’m interested in your opinion about this, would you go to serve?, would you be able to serve?

We all know that war is not a woman’s business. However, today a large number of representatives of the fair sex serve in the ranks of the armed forces. It is worth recognizing that the Russian Ministry of Defense is actually fighting against stereotypes that military service is “not a woman’s business.” Although the total number of women in the Russian army has decreased almost threefold over the past 5 years. Currently, about 11 thousand women in uniform serve in the Russian army. Lieutenant Colonel Elena Stepanova, who is the head of the social processes monitoring department of the Research (Sociological) Center of the Russian Armed Forces, spoke about this on March 5, 2013.

According to Stepanova, there are 4.3 thousand female officers in the Russian army. At the same time, the reduction in their number in recent years is associated with the general trend towards a reduction in the number of the RF Armed Forces. At the same time, Elena Stepanova emphasized that women’s motivation for military service is quite high. Here we are in no way talking about a challenge to the stronger half of humanity or some kind of competition. Today, a woman goes to serve in the army not in order to demonstrate her importance or strength, but in order to realize herself in the military-professional sphere.

Of all these women, about 1.5% occupy primary command positions, while the rest of this category of military personnel serves in staff positions or is involved as specialists in the medical service, communications troops, financial services, etc. In addition, 1.8% of female officers have operational-tactical military training, 31.2% have full military-special training, and 19% received military training by studying at military departments of civilian higher educational institutions. Currently, female military personnel are serving under contract as sergeants and privates in almost all branches and types of troops, military districts, formations and units. Quite a few of them even serve in the Airborne Forces.

The issue of women serving in the Russian army is not new at all. Yes, in Tsarist Russia women were not taken into military service - in those days, women were engaged in the work for which they were destined by nature itself - giving birth to children and engaged in their subsequent upbringing. Only individual women, who perceived their gender as a mistake made by nature, secretly made their way into the army under the guise of men. During Soviet times, women entered the armed forces. They took part in both the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. At the same time, women took a massive part in the Great Patriotic War; they mainly served as radio operators, nurses, and typists at headquarters. But at the same time, many women were pilots and snipers.

After the war, some of them continued to serve in the armed forces in their usual positions, but their number was relatively small. At the same time, due to the collapse of the USSR and democratization processes, Russia seems to have decided to increase the presence of women not only in government bodies, but also in the armed forces. At a certain time, the number of women in uniform reached 50 thousand people, which accounted for up to 5% of the size of the Russian army, but recently there has been a decrease in their numbers.

Back in 2008, Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which underage girls were allowed to study in the Nakhimov naval, Suvorov military, military music schools, as well as cadet corps. Moreover, for several years now, the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been accepting representatives of the fair sex, who make up 25% of the total number of students. In general, if we also take the police, the number of women in uniform will increase significantly. About 180 thousand representatives of the fair sex serve in the police, including 5 major generals and 1 lieutenant general.

Moreover, unlike the American army, no one has ever prohibited our women soldiers from taking part in hostilities. There is simply no division into “non-combat” and “combat” positions by gender in the Russian army. If a woman wears shoulder straps on her shoulders, then the commander has every right to send her to the trenches on the front line or throw her into the attack. Even in our relatively “peaceful” times, 710 women of the Russian army managed to take part in hostilities.

Moreover, throwing grenades, shooting personal weapons, driving equipment and even running tanks in recent years have become the same mandatory training requirement for female military personnel as they have long been for the male half of the Russian army. Women have long worn the same field uniform for all military personnel, but it is worth recognizing that even at the training grounds they do not completely forget about cosmetics or beautiful earrings in their ears. Many commanders look condescendingly at these small deviations from statutory uniformity.

However, the same cannot be said with regard to compliance with other elements of army everyday life. In this regard, the army has the equality that feminists are seeking today. Women take up duties and duties with the same rights as men. At the same time, they are also asked to the fullest extent for their service. Unless they put you in a guardhouse and forced you to run around the stadium in full combat gear. At the same time, the latter is quite often practiced in the American army.

At the same time, in Russia the military always observed an unspoken gentleman's agreement, according to which, to the extent possible, they tried to protect representatives of the fairer sex from any danger, especially while they were in “hot spots.” Since the Russian Ministry of Defense did not issue special orders that would exempt women from combat missions, they were sent to areas of armed conflict along with their headquarters and units. At the same time, they were practically never seen in combat formations; the rule already mentioned above worked: a woman can serve in a medical battalion, at a communications center, at headquarters. But don’t ask to go to the front line; men will expose their heads to bullets.

Today, women in the Russian army reach high commanding heights. Thus, the deputy head of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation (GUMVS) of the Russian Ministry of Defense is Major General Elena Knyazeva, who, having received this rank, after a long break, became the only woman in the Russian military generals.

Women have even penetrated into such a purely “male” branch of the military as the Airborne Forces. For example, the media has repeatedly published information that about 383 women serve in the famous 76th Airborne Division, stationed in Pskov, including 16 officers. Moreover, while women in medical and financial services have not surprised anyone for a long time, women in the position of platoon commanders are a rather rare phenomenon. It was in this position in the communications battalion that Lieutenant Ekaterina Anikeeva served as guard, and all her subordinates were men.

Moreover, the Ryazan Airborne School does not stand still. This famous educational institution, which today educates applicants from 32 countries, began accepting girls in 2008. Representatives of the fair sex are invited to master a profession called “Use of airborne support units.” Graduates of the school - female officers - will command squads of parachute handlers, as well as assist in the release of military equipment and paratroopers, including using complex multi-dome systems and special platforms.

Psychophysical characteristics of women

As shown by studies specially carried out in Russia, the results of which were announced at the first congress of military medical and preventive doctors, female military personnel represent a fairly significant reserve for replenishment and recruitment of the Russian Armed Forces, while they have no fundamental contraindications for military service. Moreover, the results of studies indicate that women in the army are characterized by a higher level of health compared to male military personnel. And the Russian army itself already has experience working with women, who, among other things, serve under contract. This was reflected in the “Manual on Physical Training in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, which came into force on April 21, 2009.

It is believed that women are the “weaker sex,” but this is not true. Yes, it is known that the physical strength of a woman with equal body weight is slightly less than that of men, but at the same time, this lack of physical strength can be compensated by the woman’s mastery of weapons and training. A trained female soldier is able to easily defeat an untrained man.

At the same time, women have another advantage - they are more resilient. It is no coincidence that the world record for swimming long distances belongs to a representative of the fair sex. Women are not only more resilient than men, but also more resistant to stress. This was shown by studies conducted at the Military Medical Academy. Today, representatives of the fair sex are engaged in all specialties and professions that were previously considered purely masculine (not only from the point of view of men, but also from the women themselves). Today, women not only fight in the ring, wrestle on the mat, fight bulls as matadors, but also move multi-ton cars and lift heavy weights. It is not surprising that, having mastered all available civilian professions and occupations of the strong half of humanity, they turned their attention to the army. As it turned out, they serve in the armed forces no worse than men.

Women in the armies of the world

It is worth noting that women today serve in many armies of the world; in Israel, conscription service is mandatory for both men and women. If we talk about Europe, the most “feminine” army today is the French one, in which 23 thousand women in uniform serve, which is 8% of the total number of personnel - from private to colonel. There are women in almost all units, with the exception of the Marine Corps, the Foreign Legion and submarine crews.

Other successful examples of exercising one's right to military service are the armies of the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Australia and Canada. So, according to data published by the Pentagon, out of 1.42 million soldiers and officers who are on active duty, 205 thousand are women (more than 14%), while 64 of them have the ranks of general and admiral.

For many years, it was the navy in almost all countries of the world without exception that remained the most conservative branch of the armed forces with regard to the presence of women in the service, but it gradually became open to the fair sex. In 1995, in the Norwegian Navy, captain third rank Solveig Krey became the world's first female submarine commander. At the end of 2011, Robin Walker became a commander (rear admiral) of the Australian fleet, and in 2012, the Frenchwoman Anna Caller was included in the list of women promoted to this rank, who became the first female commander in the French Navy with experience in serving on ships.
