I bought tickets for 24,000, round trip. From Moscow there is a direct flight to Tivat. From Tivat, a transfer to Herceg Novi costs 40 euros. I booked an apartment in the Igalo district for only 20 euros. Because it's not the season. The furnishings are luxurious, everything you need for your stay was provided. Where can I eat?

We had a very tasty and inexpensive meal at the market in Bar. There are small shops along the perimeter of “Zelena Plaza”, as the market is called in Montenegro. They will immediately prepare pljeskavica, shish kebab or shrimp in front of you. You choose a raw processed product and it is grilled in front of you. The smell is such that it is impossible to pass by. Although, the tables here are quite simple. Some cafes even have disposable dishes and cutlery. But very tasty!

Such establishments exist not only on the market. They are called mesars, butcher shops. You don't have to eat in them; you can take prepared food to take away. And eat, for example, on the seashore.

About the quality of food and service

Montenegro is like Georgia: everyone eats meat here. Basically, this is grilled meat. Pleskavica is a minced meat cutlet. Wherever we eat, it’s a very tasty thing! Fish is cooked less often; locals do not respect it. But they cook and sell it for tourists. They don't cook very well. But they try.

Good shrimp here. Take small ones. It's local, which means it's fresh. Large ones are imported, which means they are most often frozen. And fresh local shrimp are so delicious that you can eat them raw! Well, maybe heated in a frying pan with pepper for a couple of minutes!

The first place of honor is occupied by the Bay of Kotor, known as the southernmost and one of the 10 most beautiful fjords in Europe. On the shores of this picturesque bay Kotor, Herceg Novi, Tivat, Perast and a dozen other small cozy towns and villages are comfortably located.

In addition to the sea excursion, I highly recommend taking a ride along the coast of the Bay of Kotor on your own. Along the narrow winding road hide real architectural gems: dilapidated palaces and luxurious churches. If you watched “Property Hunters,” you can easily find the house that the characters bought in one of the episodes.

Kotor - a fortified city with cats

Kotor can and should be considered as a separate attraction. This is a city of ancient churches, narrow streets and... cats!

The city is surrounded by a massive stone wall, which is said to be the second largest after the Great Wall of China. But we know that Montenegrins are ready to embellish for the sake of a nice word. The second wall after the Chinese one is located in neighboring Croatia, in Ston.

The ancient stone pavement is washed twice a day with detergent - a medieval tradition after the cholera epidemic.

You can walk around Kotor endlessly, looking at ancient palaces and castles, imagining what it all looked like before. I talked about the history of the city and its most interesting places, which turned out to be more like a guidebook than a regular article :)

Fortress island Mamula

Fans of abandoned buildings, wild landscapes and powerful defensive architecture will love Mamula. The island is a prison about which there are legends.

The fortress looks amazing from the air, but from the sea and land it looks no worse.

The Moraca River Canyon is a road and railway portal to the north of the country. Numerous tunnels in the rocks, cliffs - a dangerous but exciting journey. There are many equipped observation platforms with stunning views. The ancient monastery of Moraca is also located here. The river itself is rich in fish and attracts those who like to sit with a fishing rod.

Djurdjevic Bridge - the calling card of Montenegro

The Djurdzhevich Bridge (built by Rousseau, and Djurdzhevich is simply the owner of a farm nearby) is one of those places for which it is difficult to find words to describe. It's simply worth seeing. Tall, beautiful, arched. All words are unnecessary. It is located at the exit from Zabljak. Near the bridge there is a campsite, parking lot, shop, hostel and gas station. On the bridge itself there are 2 zip lines, but bungee jumping was banned - it interfered with motorists.

Durmitor National Park

Do you want to see pristine Montenegro, which has not been influenced by time or man? Then check out Durmitor. In the lost mountain villages, people live in the old fashioned way, just as they did hundreds of years ago.

There are many lakes in the national park, the most famous is Black, they say that there is an ancient monastery at the bottom. The most famous caves are Shkrk and Ledyanaya. It is better to stay in Durmitor for a few days; there are no problems with accommodation here. In winter there is a wonderful ski resort, and in summer there are horseback riding and cycling, strawberry picking in the mountains, rafting, mountaineering and descent into caves.

Sveti Stefan - the most expensive attraction in Montenegro

The famous island hotel, the price per night of which costs as much as an airplane wing. No one is allowed onto the island; this is a landmark that can be admired from afar.

Sveti Stefan has become one of the calling cards of Montenegro. His photograph is reproduced on all advertising brochures.

There is a park near the island that is interesting and pleasant to stroll through. The park leads to King's Beach and a small pier. During the season, a sunbed on the beach costs about 70 euros.

Skadar Lake and Virpazar

Lake Skadar or Shkodra is the largest lake in the Balkans. Islands, flora and fauna, fortresses on the banks, villages, boats taking tourists around. Dalmatian pelicans and other species of birds live here, and the islands in the lake are either a chapel or a fortress.

The gateway to Lake Skadar is the village of Virpazar. In the spring there is a festival of wine and bleak, but at any time you can come to Virpazar and arrange wine and bleak yourself :)

True, only a small part is open for inspection, but the panoramic view from the top point is the main reason why you should go here.

Nunnery above Sveti Stefan

Above Sveti Stefan there is a nunnery where visitors are allowed. The buildings there are made of logs, and nuns give tours during the daytime. The place, of course, is not interesting for everyone, but on the way to the monastery there are a couple of points where you should stop.

Firstly, the old cemetery, which offers a beautiful view of Sveti Stefan. You can climb to the observation deck near the cemetery on foot from below, along stone steps.

Secondly, there is a waterfall nearby.

Piva Lake and rafting on the Piva River

Lake Piva and the Piva River are located in the west of Montenegro, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are many old roads in Montenegro. Some are still in use, some are overgrown with grass and are gradually being destroyed. If you drive from Budva to Podgorica, there is an old bypass road that bypasses the toll tunnel and gives stunning free views.

There is also an old road along the ridge behind Virpazar. First - the landscapes of Lake Skadar, then the road comes as close as possible to the border with Albania and turns back towards Montenegro. The road, although narrow, is very picturesque. We even got tired of stopping to take photos.
