I'm on Maenam beach, Koh Samui

Low-cost airline means that the airline is low-cost and its flights, most often, are much cheaper than flights from standard airlines.

For example, first you buy a ticket to Bangkok (the capital of Thailand) from Moscow with S7 airlines. Then, you connect flights and buy a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui on the Air Asia website.

From the station for 608 baht (including the ferry to Samui) by 2nd class bus, you get to the pier in Surat Thani, and from the pier you transfer to the ferry to Koh Samui.

Eat different classes buses from Bangkok to Samui, including the most comfortable one - V.I.P. (with folding seats and meals) for more than 1,000 baht one way, but based on my experience I will say that in this case, it is not much more expensive to fly with Air Asia and by choosing a plane, you save a lot of your travel time.

Buses from Bangkok to Samui and back run in the morning, afternoon, and evening, but since you will need to spend at least 10 hours on the road, it is better to choose night flights.

Welcome to Koh Samui!

There are two ways to get to Koh Samui: expensive, but comfortable, and cheap, but less convenient.
Only regular air travel is considered expensive. I don’t know if there are direct flights from Russia to Samui; usually planes fly to Bangkok, and from there by local carrier to the island. Samui Airport is owned by Bangkok Airways and no other planes fly to us. A separate ticket from Bangkok to Samui costs around 4500-5000 rubles, depending on your luck. Includes standard baggage allowance. But when I ordered my mother, for example, a ticket from Moscow (since there was a direct flight only from there, there was no direct flight from St. Petersburg) to Bangkok, and from there to Samui, then separately, when buying two tickets, a ticket from Bangkok cost 5,000, and if you immediately set your final destination to Samui, then on the same flight of the same company, the surcharge was only 1000 rubles! I used the most convenient search for all companies at once, and it gave me a good ticket for Aeroflot + Bangkokairways cheaper than “sort of” for an inexpensive (filthy, falling apart with boorish service) trans*ero.

Usually, everyone prefers to use the same search engine, where you can, after playing with dates, find a cheaper ticket, fly to Bangkok, walk there for a few days (), and then get to Koh Samui.

How more profitable option, but with comfort, which I usually prefer to use, because we have Small child, is a cheaper flight with low-cost airline Airasia from Bangkok via Surat Thani. (Sometimes you can get an Airaija ticket for 65 baht one way, according to a promotion, of course, but otherwise we fly for about 700-900 baht and an hour of time, luggage is paid separately, but we fly to neighboring countries with backpacks). Surat Thani is the mainland of Thailand, located just opposite Koh Samui. There are three tasks here: air travel, getting from Surat Thani airport to the port of Donsak, and from there to the island. Moreover, the last two things are easy to combine. The island's communication with the mainland is well developed thanks to ferries scurrying every hour and half an hour different companies, and from several ports at once, to choose from. I like to land at Nathon, the first port. There is an even larger arch when disembarking from the Welcome to Samui ship. The ticket costs only 150 baht from the nose, the sail is an hour and a half. Moreover, if you then go to the city (to Surat Thani it’s about an hour-ten hour drive on a comfortable, almost quite decent bus), then a ticket for both the ferry and the bus will cost only 240 baht. I didn’t see any taxi drivers upon arrival. And although we didn’t buy tickets for the bus the first time, almost foolishly, upon arrival we bought them at the Donskaya port for only 10 baht (rubles) more expensive than if we had bought them in advance. Thus, if you have a flight early in the morning, you can arrive in the evening, easily drive to the center, check into a hotel, and even take a walk around the city. We really, really liked Surat Thani, it’s worth staying there at least for one day. We didn’t even have time to see everything in three minutes, although many write, being too lazy to find any attractions themselves, that there is nothing to do there for more than five minutes. Oh, I don't agree!

If the flight is late, then a miracle service is offered - for only 450 per person, including both ferry and bus, you will be immediately taken to the airport. Tickets can also be bought on the island.

Below is the flight schedule:

But the cost of tickets and additional services.

You can sleep on the ferry)

On my own behalf, I’ll also add that the ferries are very comfortable (although once a tuk-tuk in Surat Thani brought us to some strange port with Big Buddha, a much worse ferry sailed from there, and brought us to some port on the other end of the island, from which We got out with difficulty.
And the last bus leaves from the airport at 15:45, because later, apparently, you simply won’t be able to catch the ferry. Those arriving on late flights can stay overnight at a hotel in Surat Thani. At the airport I saw bus+ferry tickets being sold for 350 baht.

In addition, there are also speed boats that will take you to the island or back in 45 minutes, but their cost, of course, is much higher. And they can take you all the way to Bangkok, although the experience is not particularly pleasant according to reviews from travelers, because it’s shaking and a little scary. Such a high-speed boat “flies” to Bangkok in only 4.5 hours.

And a very cheap option is a bus. You can arrive at the northern station (remember, the last bus leaves at 7 or 8) and leave on the same day. Although it is better to book tickets in advance, sometimes free seats Simply no, this method of transportation is popular. There are simpler buses, from 650 baht, and there are 900-950, super comfortable express trains. The chairs are soft here and there, there is air conditioning (quite cold, take socks and sweaters), and there is even good Wi-Fi. The drive takes about 10 hours, I got in in the evening and arrived in the morning. But with a child I don’t take that risk yet.
