He pities everyone and is always ready and wants to help every person, if a person has just made a firm decision - to live honestly and treat all people kindly, to love God and his neighbors - and turns to God for help.

One woman had an unlucky severe family life. The husband drank to the point of insanity, became dissolute, cheated on his wife, made scandals, fought - it seemed there would never be an end to this. The unfortunate woman did not know how to get out of this truly vicious circle. She was baptized, but did not go to church, did not pray, and knew practically nothing about God. Driven to despair, she no longer knew what to do. But then I met an old friend of mine and told her everything, she advised her to turn to God, go to church, confess all her sins and pray diligently.

Soon, he almost stopped drinking, and if he drinks sometimes, it’s only a little, and what’s more, he begins to guiltily make excuses to his wife. He began to treat his wife kindly and attentively. Such an amazing transformation occurred through the prayers of his wife, God's help and God's mercy. God hears those who do not forget about Him. I’ll tell you another illustrative case from my practice of how God, through a person’s prayer, helps him. One woman turned to me for help. She had a very bad relationship with her husband, the husband constantly cursed and found fault with his wife over all sorts of trifles, did not give her any peace at all, she was no longer happy with life and was afraid of her husband. Then I advised her to pray for her husband and read the Jesus Prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on the servant of God (her husband’s name) who is a sinner. When her husband again begins to pester her and swear, then let her go either to the kitchen or to the bathroom and read carefully, slowly, this prayer for her husband, for an hour, two, let her beg and beg God until God will hear her prayer and not help her, and will calm her husband. I told her that in the beginning, until she learned to pray, she would have to read this prayer for a long time, and the result of reading this prayer is the complete calming of her husband, if her husband calms down after reading this prayer, then this means that she prayed correctly and God heard her and helped her. The main thing for her was that she had to be personally convinced of the Power of Prayer, of God’s help, and to understand well that God exists and always helps people when they ask God for help. Then, when she learns to pray, her husband will quickly calm down, first within an hour, then after half an hour, and the time will come and God, through her prayer, will calm her husband down in 10 -15 minutes. The main thing is to try to pray with all your heart and not to lose heart, and to be persistent in your prayer to God. You must definitely go to church for confession and repent of your sins, partake of the Holy Mysteries, but most importantly, you must begin to live like all believers: pray constantly in the morning and evening, go to church, start observing fasts, read the Law of God and read at least every day at least one chapter from the Gospel.

So she did. Then, a year later, she told me how she asked God to help her for the first time. Arriving home, she saw that her husband was in a bad mood, as always, and began to pester her again and swear rudely. She did not take offense at him as usual and simply went to the bathroom, locked herself in it and began to read the prayer that I gave her. She read for a long time, more than two hours, and her husband kept cursing and grumbling, then suddenly there was silence. After waiting a little, she left the bathroom and looked into the room. Her husband was sitting calmly and in a good mood near the TV, when he saw her, he smiled kindly at her and said: “I’m hungry, maybe we can eat something?” And I was in a good mood the whole evening. Now she began to pray to the Lord every day for her husband, so that He would calm him down and give him a good mood. After a couple of months, the husband began to swear less often, after three months the husband started making a scandal once or twice a week, after six months the husband began to swear even less often and soon stopped swearing completely. His character changed, he became softer, kinder, became more attentive to his wife, began to help with housework and they began to live peacefully with each other. So the woman is on personal experience I became convinced of the Power of prayer and God’s help and became a believer.

Due to a small wound on the foot right leg A friend of mine developed a severe inflammatory process after a few days. This happened right on the May holidays, the leg swollen and turned blue, and the inflammatory process continued to develop intensively, the tumor began to rise up the leg, all this began to clearly resemble the process of gangrene. On May 5, a friend of mine was brought to the hospital late in the evening and admitted to the department, but the hospital was in a pre-holiday mood, so no one began to examine him on Friday, they seemed to have forgotten about him, so quite naturally no treatment was prescribed. The inflammatory process on the opposite leg was only gaining strength and moving up the leg higher and higher. And he remembered that someone told him that if you read the Jesus Prayer 500 times, “Hail to the Virgin Mary” 150 times, and so on three times a day: morning, afternoon and evening, read every day until you get well, and you need to read very diligently, so that there is strength in prayer. That’s how he began to read these prayers every day, reads one day, reads another, read all the holidays, the doctors examined him for the first time only on May 11, when the holidays ended, but by this time there was stabilization, the inflammatory process in front of his eyes stopped, subsided and became decrease, went back down the leg to the foot, the leg began to turn pink, the pain stopped. A few days later he was discharged from the hospital without understanding what it was and only one friend of mine knew what really happened and who healed his leg. One believer was in the hospital. One evening, walking along the corridor, he saw an elderly man who was sitting alone, in great sadness, on the sofa. He sat down next to him and asked what was wrong with him, why he was so worried, he answered and showed him his leg, saying that he was being prepared for amputation. The leg really looked terrible, it was all black. He said that if his leg was cut off now, how would he live, where should he go, who needs an old, feeble disabled person in our difficult times? Then the believer told him about God, that God takes pity on people, hears and always helps them. Old man I was baptized since childhood, but I didn’t pray, I didn’t know any prayers, and of course I didn’t go to church. The believer explained to him why this misfortune happened to him. All because he was baptized, but he didn’t remember about God, he didn’t go to church, and the years passed and he didn’t have much time left to live on earth. God, seeing such a life and wanting to save this man, allowed him such a terrible misfortune so that he would wake up, come to his senses and remember God, and begin to live as an Orthodox Christian should live.

As we say in Rus': “Until thunder strikes, a man will not cross himself.” Unfortunately, many of us spend our lives exactly like this man, forgetting about God in the midst of earthly troubles and worries, and then, when trouble happens, we don’t know where to run and who to ask for help. A friend of mine wrote him simple prayers: “Our Father, Jesus, Mother of God, Heavenly King” and said that you just need to read them as much as possible, from morning to evening, and ask God for mercy and healing, and also added that he must make a vow to God that if the Lord helps him and he recovers and his leg is not cut off, then he must begin to live strictly according to the Laws of God, constantly go to church, fast and pray. Having met this elderly man three days later, the believer heard words of gratitude. He suddenly felt better, the scab on his leg disappeared, the swelling subsided, the blackness disappeared, and the doctors, without understanding anything, recognized a practical Recovery and canceled the Amputation, he was preparing for discharge. If you could only see the eyes of this elderly man, who was doomed to disability and a terrible fate - and thanks to the mercy and help of God, he became healthy! This is how the Lord helps all people in our time who remember Him.

When a person, asking for help from God, GIVES Him some kind of VOW - that is, a firm PROMISE to do something good, then the Lord, taking the person at his word, FULFILLS this prayer. A vow is a promise to God to do some good deed or give up some of your bad habits, for example: stop drinking wine, quit smoking, stop swearing and swearing, stop being lazy, stop engaging in fornication, etc. Or accept Orthodox Baptism, or start doing good deeds, helping poor people and the Church, including building churches and monasteries, or a person makes a Vow to God that from now on he will live only Honestly and according to the Laws of God, or some other Vow - then the Lord fulfills his prayer - request. But man is now obligated to strictly fulfill exactly everything that he promised to God.

An example from life. One man’s daughter became mortally ill; doctors diagnosed her with cancer and it was impossible to save her. This man was a believer, and trying to help his daughter, he went to Elder Paisius. He told him: “If you want your daughter to stay alive and healthy, make a vow to the Lord that you will quit smoking forever.” For the sake of the life and health of his daughter, this man made a vow to God and QUIT smoking. And a miracle happened - his daughter began to recover and fully recovered, she was discharged from the hospital.

But the man didn't keep his word given to God, forgot about my promise not to smoke. Seeing that his daughter became healthy, two years later he started smoking again and then, after some short time, his daughter began to experience a new, even more severe exacerbation of the disease. Again the father went to Elder Paisius and said: God is not helping, again his daughter is very bad.” And Elder Paisios answers him: Why did you break your vow? Why did you deceive God and start smoking again? After all, the Lord believed you and healed your daughter! And now I can't help you. Cigarettes turned out to be more valuable to you than your daughter’s life! It’s my own fault - I shouldn’t have broken my vow! A few months later, the man's daughter died.

God knows our firm intention to fulfill the Vow we make to Him. If we are determined - DECISIVELY and immediately, after our request, we begin to fulfill our promise - then God will definitely FULFILL our prayer. But, if God sees that a person, although he makes a promise to Him to do this and that, but in the depths of his soul does not want, is lazy and does not dare to fulfill his promise or puts it off for later - then the Lord does not fulfill prayers of a person asking.
